Gameplay Basics

Belly

Belly depletes at the rate of 1 point every 7 turns (14 turns with Stamina Band).
Once Belly reaches 0, the Pokemon takes 3 damage per turn if they're the leader and you don't have Notorious Fasting.
Belly can be replenished by eating food (apples or Grimy Food), seeds, berries, or by reviving via a Reviver Seed.

HP Regen

Player side Pokemon regenerate HP as they walk around or step in place (Hold R + A).
HP won't regenerate when any other action is performed.

HP regeneration speed is linked to max HP, and slows down as max HP increases.
The formula is 50 / Max HP, with the minimum being 0.5 HP recovered per turn (This occurs from 100+ Max HP).

Recruitment

The player-controlled leader Pokemon must be the one to land the final hit to have a chance at recruiting.
Note that the target must also be within a 2 tile radius of the leader.

Side Note: Things like the target's ability and rare quality are rolled upon recruitment.
This means the ability the Pokemon has as a recruit can differ from the one it had as an enemy.
However, basic stats are always the same (In other words, PMD doesn't have IVs or natures).

Shiny Strong Foe

Your leader Pokemon must be wearing a Friend Bow to have a chance at recruiting a shiny Strong Foe.
Regular Strong Foes that are NOT shiny cannot be recruited.

Boosting Recruit Rate

Recruitment boosts cap out at +55.0% before the target's base recruit rate is factored in.
Example: Shiny Strong Foes all have a base recruit rate of -6.4%, so the best chance you can get is 48.6%.

ConditionBoost
Level 1-40 *1+3.0%
Level 41-50 *1+4.0%
Level 51-100 *1+5.0%
Friend Bow+12.8%
Inviting Orb+25.0%
False Swipe+17.5%
Friendly (Rare Quality)+15.0%
Squad Up (Rare Quality) *2+3.0 ~ +7.5%

*1: Each additional boost from level ranges overwrites the previous rank.
*2: Party size of 1 = +3.0%, 2 = +4.0%, 3 = +5.0%, 4 = +5.5%, 5 = +6.0%, 6 = +6.5%, 7 = +7.0%, 8 = +7.5%

Cheating via NSO Cloud Saves

Basically a method to guarantee that you recruit the target Pokemon.
If you decide to cheat, take full responsibility for it if you do the steps incorrectly and mess up your save or whatever.

Steps:

  1. Turn off the auto-backup option (NSO Cloud Saves) for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX.
  2. Save the game in front of the pokemon you want to recruit.
  3. Close the game and create a manual NSO Cloud Save backup (Press + with the game selected).
  4. Start the game and defeat the target to see if you recruit it.
    • If the target didn't join you, close the game and proceed to step 5. Otherwise, you're done!
  5. Close the game → Download the NSO Cloud Save, overwriting the console's save.
  6. Start the game, but this time advance the turn RNG by 1 before defeating the target again.
    • Examples: Take a step, do a trap check, use a move that doesn't deal damage, etc.
  7. If you failed to recruit the target again, go back to step 5 but advance the turn RNG by 2 next time, and so on.
    • You'll eventually get lucky and recruit your target, assuming you meet the requirements.
