Onigashima
Dungeon you can enter after completing the castle.
Shiren and his allies go separate ways to avoid being taken out as a group,
so you'll start the dungeon without allies on the first attempt.
Some say this is where the game truly begins, with the appearance
of Monster Houses, more unidentified items including scrolls, and a far
deeper dungeon without the safety of a rest area like Shuten Halfway.
Adding to the difficulty is a lower carry-in limit of 7 items,
so think carefully about what items you want to have on hand.
There's a boss fight against Galaha on 16F,
and then a final showdown against Boss Oni on 25F.

All floors use random dungeon style map generation and have fog in hallways,
so you'll need a Scout Bracelet if you want to check ahead for enemies in hallways.
Monster Houses can be generated starting on 3F.
They can be challenging, but they're a great way to obtain a bunch of items in short order.
Flood Trap, Monster Trap, and Pitfall make an appearance for the first time.
Perform an empty attack before each step inside Monster Houses to avoid accidentally
stepping on them, which can result in changing floors or turning all items into monsters.
You can't bring allies when you enter Onigashima for the first time,
but you might run into them while exploring the dungeon.
If you collapse in Onigashima during the story, Mamo will retrieve the equipment you lost.
Pick up the equipment up by talking to Mamo outside Mumyu in the morning.
The equipment will have a decrease of ~25% upgrade value and seal count.
Important Items
Weapon
Katana+10 (三回○○○) or so would be ideal at this point in the game.
Fill the remaining slots with ド仏目 to increase damage output, or 幸幸幸 to boost exp.
If 回 is too difficult, you can substitute with multiple 弟.
Seal | Item | Info |
---|---|---|
三 | Razor Wind | Lets you attack in a 3-way pattern. |
回 | Healing Sword | Heal HP equal to 1/3 of the amount of damage you dealt. Synthesize Herb, Otogiriso, and Life Grass onto a weapon. |
ド | Drain Buster | Deal x1.5 damage to Drain types. (Sluggy, Hunger Puppet, Scorpion, etc.) |
仏 | Ghost Sickle | Deal x1.5 damage to Ghost types. (Yamikichi, Gale, Pumphantasm, etc.) |
目 | Cyclops Killer | Deal x1.5 damage to Cyclops types. (Ironhead, Golem, Gazer, etc.) |
弟 | Otogiriso | Restore a fixed amount of HP after dealing damage. (4, 7, 10, 13, 15, ...) |
幸 | Happy Grass | Gain more exp when defeating monsters. (+10%, +40%, +70%, +100%, ...) You'll want at least 2~3 seals to make it worthwhile. |
Shield
Beetle Shield+10 (皮弟弟弟○) or so is ideal at this point in the game.
Use a Leather Shield if you don't want to lose upgrade value due to rust.
You'll want a minimum of 3 弟 seals to help restore HP after taking damage.
Fill the remaining slot with either another 弟, or バ to increase damage output.
Seal | Item | Info |
---|---|---|
皮 | Leather Shield | Halves hunger rate. |
弟 | Otogiriso | Restore a fixed amount of HP after taking damage. (4, 7, 10, 13, 15, ...) |

Floor Guide
1-6F
Standard early game monsters, along with Small Oni on 4~6F.
Small Oni has somewhat high attack for an early game monster,
but they shouldn't be much of a threat if you have decent equipment.
There are many waterways in Onigashima, so be careful not to get tripped
in the direction of water by an Armordillo if you don't have a Balance Staff.
7-12F
Troublesome monsters like Gazer, Shotfish, Nigiri Morph, and Kengo appear.
Shoot arrows at Gazers (7~8F) to defeat them before they get close.
Shotfish (7~9F) can turn all scrolls outside of pots into Wet Scrolls.
Nigiri Morph (9~10F) can transform your valuable items into Large Onigiri.
Shoot arrows from a distance, or use an item if they got close - don't let them act.
Fight Kengo (11~12F) with your back against a wall or unequip your shield beforehand.
Mixers can spawn between 9~12F, along with Mixermon on 12F.
Mixermon is the level 2 monster of the Mixer family, and can swallow up to 3 items.
Go ahead and combine same name staves to free up inventory space,
or synthesize equipment if you have some on hand that you want to combine.
13-15F
Ranged attackers like Wolf Droid, Pop Tank, Water Strider, and Bored Kappa appear.
Watch out for Water Strider and Bored Kappa in particular,
since they can throw dangerous items like Gitan, Dragon Grass, and Poison Grass.
Don't let your guard down inside rooms, and keep your HP topped up.
Rocky Oni (14~15F) moves and attacks at double speed.
Unequip bracelets when fighting up close to prevent them from cracking.
16F is a boss fight against Galaha and his squad of Oni, so restore your HP
and equip a Pierce Bracelet if you happen to have one before proceeding past 15F.
Galaha (16F)
Boss fight against Galaha and his squad of Oni.
The squad consists of 5 Small Oni, 4 Rocky Oni, 4 Stumpy Oni, and 5 Lanky Oni.
The battle ends the moment you defeat Galaha, so just focus on him.
Name | HP | Atk | Def | Exp | Type | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Galaha | 71 | 21 | 23 | 120 | Normal | Issues orders to his squad of Oni. Avoids lining up with Shiren while issuing orders. |
Small Oni | 12 | 10 | 6 | 8 | Normal | - |
Rocky Oni | 60 | 15 | 20 | 70 | Normal | Double speed. (2 attacks) |
Stumpy Oni | 60 | 15 | 20 | 50 | Normal | Doesn't move. Throws stones at a target within 3 tiles. |
Lanky Oni | 50 | 9 | 18 | 60 | Normal | Shoots Iron Arrows. |
Galaha has roughly the same attack and defense stats as an Armor Spider (13F),
so he isn't too difficult to take out. Getting close to him is the trickiest part of the fight.
There are many ways to tackle this fight, but here are some examples:
- Snipe Galaha with arrows using a Pierce Bracelet.
- Read a Shadow Scroll to lure the squad into attacking shadows,
and then eat Warp Grass to get close to Galaha and use direct attacks. - Read a Blaze Scroll to wipe out the squad.
- Scatter Perfect Iron Sand to blind everyone in the room, and then run up to Galaha.
- Throw 710 or more Gitan at Galaha to one-shot him.
If you decide to fight them head on, you're going to take many hits,
so you'll want to equip a shield with multiple 弟 to counter the HP loss.
Be sure to unequip any bracelets to prevent them from shattering.
Lightning damage will actually heal Oni, so reading a Lightning Scroll is not effective.
If you return to Onigashima after finishing the story, simply send out ally monsters.
They will automatically go back inside their pots after the fight.
※ ※ Warning ※ ※
The game freezes if Shiren enters a pot or becomes invisible during the fight.
(Example: ally Devil Kangaroo swinging an Invisible Staff at Shiren)
17-21F
Watch out for Porky, Nigiri Boss, and Tiger Hurler in particular.
Porky (17~19F) tosses stones at targets within 2 tiles, even if they're outside of view.
Nigiri Boss (19~21F) turns Shiren into an onigiri, reducing his defense to 0.
Tiger Hurler (19~21F) throws Shiren at monsters, onto traps, or into Monster Houses.
Stormy Doll (17~18F) decreases weapon or shield upgrade value by 1.
It feels kind of bad, but this isn't actually a big deal in terms of damage calculation.
Shops on 17~20F or Traders on 17~24F can have Dragon Tile Bracelets for sale.
Buy any that you see, since they're used to synthesize powerful Daisangen equipment.
If you want to hunt for Dragon Tile Bracelets more efficiently,
come back once you have a Trapper Bracelet and use Pitfalls to change floors.
Restock Scrolls are excellent to read if you find a bracelet specialty shop.
22-24F
Powerful monsters like Dragon, Demon Scorpion, and Monarch Tusker appear.
Keep in mind, rushing stairs instead of checking rooms is a legitimate strategy.
Monarch Tusker swings a Slow Staff to slow you down or paralyze you from a distance,
sometimes causing you to collapse without being able to perform any actions.
Hurry to the stairs if you don't have Revival Grass.
Dragon breathes fire that deals 20 damage in a straight line.
Demon Scorpion decreases Shiren's action speed by 1 stage.
Copycat Mask can spawn between 22~23F.
It's weak but disguises itself as other monsters, sometimes causing wasted item usage
like eating Dragon Grass or throwing Gitan at what you thought was a Dragon.
You can identify them by swinging a Knowledge or Seal staff.
Boss Oni (25F)
The showdown against Boss Oni.
Name | HP | Atk | Def | Exp | Type | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Boss Oni | 450 | 45 | 40 | 0 | Normal | Immune to fire damage, Spoil Traps, and Pitfalls. Breathes fire when Shiren is lined up. Makes Shiren trip from anywhere in the room. Knocks Shiren away, dealing 10 damage. Recovers from status conditions when taking damage. |
He has high offensive and defensive stats, and can use a multitude of special attacks,
including recovering from status conditions, breathing fire, and making Shiren trip.
Your items might go up in flames if you're not carrying a Balance Staff.
Sanctuary Scrolls also burn up, so placing them to create safe zones can be unreliable.
If he has status condition, he'll instantly cure it the next time he's attacked by Shiren.
However, he can't restore lost strength due to getting hit by Poison Grass.
You can one-shot him by throwing a Storage Pot that has at least 4500 Gitan inside.
Equip a Bullseye Bracelet if you use this strategy so that you don't miss.
Bullseye Bracelet is easier to find in Shuten Trail Hard rather than Onigashima.
Otherwise, use Swift Grass, Shadow Scroll, etc. to attack without taking damage.
Boss Oni gives you a Crescent Arm every time you return and defeat him after the story.
It has high base attack and slots, and provides one of the seals for Kaburasutegi.
Post-game strategies include using a Landmine and Trapper Bracelet to
one-shot him,
sending out ally monsters to handle the fight, or throwing an Extinction Scroll.
Golden Interval
Strategy
There's a 20% chance for Golden Stairs to be hidden in a wall tile between 8~15F.
You'll return to 11F after exiting from the Golden Interval area, so if you're lucky,
you may be able to find another Golden Stairs between 11~15F.
One search method besides reading a Great Hall Scroll is to level up a Boy Cart,
swing a Possession Staff to take control of them, and fire cannonballs to destroy walls.
Ivory Sword and Ivory Shield are ingredients used in making Daisangen equipment,
and
multiple Dragon Killers are needed for Ryujin Sword, so pick them up if you see any.
Golden Sword and Golden Shield look nice, but are too weak to be used as main equipment.
However, they provide a blue 金 seal that protects your equipment from rusting.
Phantasm Bracelet is one of the best items in the game, so take good care of it if you find one.
It allows you to walk on air and pass through walls, along with warping to a random room
on the current floor if you unequip it while inside a wall or over water.

No Items Guide
The trickiest part of this "no carry-in items" ruleset is the two boss fights.
Look for items like Swift Grass, Warp Grass, Blaze Scroll, and Blank Scroll to get past Galaha.
Store 4500 Gitan inside a Storage Pot and throw it at Boss Oni to one-shot him.
Important Items
- Katana, Beetle Shield
- Best equipment you can find on the ground in Onigashima.
However, they're still too weak to rely on near the end without synthesis seals.
- Best equipment you can find on the ground in Onigashima.
- Disposable Sword, Disposable Shield
- They can't be used as main equipment, but they're nice options to have on hand.
- Can be thrown to deal a decent amount of damage.
- Otogiriso
- Ideally used as synthesis material, but can be eaten in a pinch.
- Happy Grass
- Throw it at a monster to level it up, and then defeat it for a large amount of exp.
- Slumber Scroll
- Useful to have on hand to escape dangerous situations.
You'll never miss when attacking sleeping enemies.
- Useful to have on hand to escape dangerous situations.
- Blank Scroll
- Shop-exclusive item that can be turned into any scroll you've read before.
- Blank:Extinction can be thrown at Boss Oni to instantly defeat him.
- Possession Staff
- Offers many functions including leveling up monsters for experience points,
tripping monsters to collect items, or escaping bad situations in general.
- Offers many functions including leveling up monsters for experience points,
- Storage Pot
- Throw it at Boss Oni with 4500 Gitan inside to one-shot him.
- Memento Pot, Surprise Pot
- Using equipment from a Memento Pot is against the rules, so discard it.
- Surprise Pots can contain useful items, and pent-up anger can one-shot Boss Oni.
However, you risk getting surrounded if there happened to be monsters in the pot.
1-3F
Snacky doesn't spawn, so it's difficult to make a Cave Mamel to level up.
That said, you can still make one using Happy Grass or Possession Staff.
You'll have a hard time after these floors if you don't level up or find decent equipment.
Identify staves by swinging them, and pots by inserting items.
If you find a Storage Pot, start placing Gitan into it for the final boss.
Only use scrolls if you happen to obtain two of the same one.
Identify Scrolls are common enough.
All grass items are found identified. Save Otogiriso for synthesis if possible.
There are only 6 types of bracelets that can be found on the ground here,
so you can narrow down the possibilities pretty easily.
4-6F
Dangerous monsters include Small Oni, Armordillo Bro, and Spearfish from 5F.
Waterways are common, so you risk losing items if you fight Armordillos near water.
Spearfish can prolong fights by healing HP inside water when their HP gets low.
If you're lucky enough to find a Possession Staff, take control of an Armordillo
and collect items by making other monsters trip.
If you weren't able to make a Cave Mamel earlier, you can try to gain more levels
by using knockback damage from Armordillo Bro's tackle to make an Armordillo Pop.
7-12F
Notable monsters include Mr. Drone (7~9F), Nigiri Morph (9~10F),
Froggucci (9~11F), and Mixer (9~12F).
Other monsters like Gazer and Scorpion can be troublesome,
but Wooden Arrows
are common so you shouldn't have too much trouble.
Prioritize synthesizing as many Otogiriso onto your shield as you can.
Let Froggucci steal a large amount of Gitan instead of defeating it right away,
and place the dropped Gitan inside a Storage Pot.
Things will only get harder from here, so go with the expectation
that you won't be able to replenish items much from this point.
13-15F
Pop Tank makes an appearance from 13F.
You can gain a large amount of experience points if you level it up,
but be careful not to accidentally collapse if you attempt to do so.
Splash water on it using a Water Pot to stop it from firing cannonballs.
Rocky Oni and Water Striders move at double speed and can attack twice per turn.
If you're doing ok with your remaining items, you might want to hurry to the exit.
16F (Galaha)
Focus on defeating Galaha quickly rather than trying to take on the squad.
- Warp Grass
- Eating it will usually warp you close to Galaha.
- However, you might get hit right away depending on where you land.
- Pierce Bracelet
- Throw 710 or more Gitan from the starting position to one-shot Galaha.
- Slumber Scroll + Swap Staff
- Read a Slumber Scroll and swing a Swap Staff twice to reach Galaha.
17-24F
Monsters have increasingly troublesome special attacks and will damage
you even if you have 弟 seals on your shield, so just rush for the stairs.
25F (Boss Oni)
Ideally you'll one-shot him by throwing a Storage Pot with 4500 Gitan inside.
However, if the pot misses or you weren't able to find a Storage Pot,
you'll have to rely on other items to take him down.
Use items like Swift Grass or Shadow Scroll if you have to use direct attacks.
You can place a Sanctuary Scroll down after luring him into a corner,
but he might burn it up with his fire attacks.
