Synthesis Seals
Seals are special abilities that can be synthesized onto weapons or shields.
Each seal is represented as a single Japanese character (Kanji, Hira, or Kata),
and the color of the seal is based on the source item.
The three colors are: equipment (blue), food/grass (green), and scroll/misc (red).
Some seals like 金 can be found in 2 colors, and have a slightly different effect.
Seals are generally helpful, but some of them are a double-edged sword,
have a pointless effect, or have an outright negative effect, so some care is needed.
The Blacksmith at Shuten Halfway can erase unwanted seals for a fee.
Gyandora and Monsoon Doll special attacks can also remove seals at random.

Stacked Effects
Common questions:
- Does having multiple 回 seals restore more HP? → No, only use 1 回 seal.
- Does having multiple 弟 seals restore more HP? → Yes, multiple 弟 restores more HP.
- Do the same seals have to be next to each other to stack? → No, order doesn't matter.
Stacking seals with similar effects:
It's sometimes cost efficient to mix seals with similar effects (天幸, 竜火, に飯, 龍竜, etc.)
rather than synthesizing 16 of the same seal, since multipliers are added together.
Fire damage reduction example: 竜 + 火 = 30% + 20% = 50%, whereas 竜 x 2 = 35%.

Popular Seals
Weapon
Seal | Stack | Item | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
仏 | ○ | Ghost Sickle | Fewer turns to defeat powerful Gale and Bone Dragon monsters, along with Pumphantasms before they go inside walls. |
ド | ○ | Drain Buster | One-shot Drain types to avoid the loss of level, strength, and fullness. |
目 | ○ | Cyclops Killer | Effective against high defense Golem and Ironhead monsters. It's not necessary for Gazers if you have the 山 seal. |
竜 | ○ | Dragon Killer | Dragon types are tough to fight at close range, so this helps. |
龍 | ○ | Ryujin Sword | Stronger version of 竜. |
必 | × | Homing Blade | Lets you calculate how many turns it takes to defeat enemies. Likely 1st or 2nd place in terms of popularity. |
三 | × | Razor Wind | Get the first hit in around corners, and plays well with Scout Bracelet. |
回 | × | Healing Sword | Fantastic for restoring HP, and greatly impacts difficulty of dungeons. |
サ | × | Wonder Pick | Dig shortcuts or steal from shops without worrying about it breaking. |
会 | ○ | Minotaur's Axe | Critical hits depend on luck, but effective against all monsters. |
飯 | ○ | Onigiri (Not Spoiled) | Nearly guarantees you won't starve if used with 皮. |
弟 | ○ | Otogiriso | Use with 回 to restore more HP. Plays well with Phantasm Bracelet. |
幸 | ○ | Happy Grass | Stack multiple 幸 on a secondary weapon to level up early game. |
天 | ○ | Angel Seed | Stronger version of 幸, and decent even on a main weapon. |
火 | ○ | Flame Grass Dragon Grass | Projectile that never runs out, but only deals a fixed 10 damage. The flame animation is long, so it slows down the pace of the game. |
帰 | × | Retreat Scroll | Nice to have if you're worried about losing your weapon. Remember, the seal won't take effect if the weapon is inside a pot. |
眠 | × | Slumber Scroll | 8% chance to put an enemy to sleep when your attack connects. Decent on a weak weapon or if you lack strength to one-shot enemies. |
金 | × | Plating Scroll | Protects other seals from 1 use of Monsoon Doll's special attack. Required to prevent the loss of upgrade value due to rust. |
会 (Minotaur's Axe) vs. 仏ド目月竜龍 (Type Effective Weapons)
The quick answer is that it depends on play style, rather than one being strictly better.
Type effective seals are guaranteed to deal more damage to a selection of monsters,
while the 会 seal has the potential to deal more damage to all monsters.
会:
+ Increase damage to all monsters.
+ Land critical hits without many 会 seals, if you're lucky.
- Chance is based on number of 会 seals. (1 = 35%, and +5% per additional seal)
- Difficult to obtain, since Lv2~3 Taur only appear at the end of post-game dungeons.
仏ド目月竜龍:
+ Increase damage to a selection of monsters.
+ 1 seal is enough for effective results.
- Monsters like Kengo can't be targeted by these seals, making 会 the better option.
- Each selection of monsters takes up 1 seal slot that could be used for something else.
- The seal is useless on floors where strong monsters of the applicable type don't appear.
Shield
Seal | Stack | Item | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
サ | × | Nirvana Shield | Stops natural fullness depletion, eliminating the need to carry onigiri. Can be a problem if you lose the shield. |
皮 | ○ | Leather Shield | Halves hunger rate, greatly lowering the risk of starvation. |
見 | ○ | Evasive Shield | Increases your chance to evade enemy direct attacks to 35%. Higher evasion means your bracelets take less damage. |
山 | × | Echo Shield | Makes you immune to magic bullets, spells, and hypnosis. |
身 | × | Dodge Shield | Dodge all projectiles, including Silver Arrows. Can't dodge Wolf Droid bombs or Pop Tank cannonballs. |
祓 | × | Holy Shield | Protects weapons, shields, and bracelets from curses. |
ト | × | Walrus Shield | Prevents Gyandora's plucking from ruining equipment and pots. |
返 | × | Reflect Shield | Reflects all items except for those with piercing properties. It also reflects monsters thrown by Tiger Tossers. |
カ | × | Traproid Shield | Traps you step on won't activate. Prevent accidents, strength loss from Poison Traps, etc. |
爆 | ○ | Blast Shield | Reduces damage from cannonballs, landmines, bomber statues, etc. Stacking 弟 seals counters Pop Tank and Wolf Droid explosions, so it's mainly used for Big Landmine and Bomber Statue blasts. |
竜 | ○ | Dragon Shield | Reduces fire damage by 30% - mainly Dragon family special attacks. Particularly good to have in Sealed Room. |
弟 | ○ | Otogiriso | Effectively reduces the amount of damage you receive. Great for early game in particular. |
火 | ○ | Flame Grass Dragon Grass | Easier to obtain than Dragon Shield. Use it with 竜 to increase fire damage reduction to 50%. |
帰 | × | Retreat Scroll | Nice to have if you're worried about losing your shield. Remember, the seal won't take effect if the shield is inside a pot. |
祓 | × | Purify Scroll | Protects weapons, shields, and bracelets from curses. |
眠 | ○ | Slumber Scroll | 8% chance to put the attacker to sleep when you get hit. Generally more effective on a shield than a weapon. |
金 | × | Plating Scroll | Protects other seals from 1 use of Monsoon Doll's special attack. Required to prevent the loss of upgrade value due to rust. |
身 (Dodge Shield) vs. 返 (Reflect Shield)
These seals appear similar at first glance, but have some differences.
返 is generally more popular between the two.
身:
+ Dodge all projectiles, and lets you easily collect arrows.
+ Dodge projectiles with piercing properties like Silver Arrows.
- Can't dodge Cannonballs.
- Can't dodge thrown monsters, possibly leading to blocked exits.
- The trap you're standing on will activate if a dodged projectile falls on it.
返:
+ Reflect most projectiles, including items and monsters.
+ Can reflect Cannonballs, though explosions still damage you.
- Reflected items vanish when they hit enemies, so you can't collect items.
- Can't dodge projectiles with piercing properties like Silver Arrows.
- Shopkeepers and Traders turn hostile if a reflected Cannonball damages them.
- Can't reflect items that have already been reflected once in the same turn.
- Slows down the pace of the game.
Pros and Cons in Table Format:
Thrown Monster | Cannonball | Piercing | Collect Item | Trap Activation | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
身 | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
返 | Yes | Yes | No | No | No |
Questionable Seals
Weapon
Seal | Stack | Item | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
掘 | × | Pickaxe | Synthesize a Wonder Pick instead to avoid losing your weapon. (It's safe to dig up to 14 times, but can break after that) |
食 | × | Gobo | You'll lose the weapon if you accidentally select [Eat]. It's worse than か (Dried Bonito) for restoring fullness. (20% vs. 30%) |
ケ | × | Kengo's Katana | You deal 0 damage when you knock a weapon away from an enemy, so this essentially makes your attacks miss more often. |
ス | × | Spark Sword | 必 (Homing Blade) guarantees that your attacks always connect, so it's only recommended to synthesize this in Road to the End. |
捨 | × | Disposable Sword | Lowers weapon upgrade value every time your attack connects. |
木 | × | Mallet | Go with 鉄 (Iron Hammer) instead if you want to break traps. |
ち | ○ | Strength Grass | Increase weapon attack by 2, but it's not worth taking up a slot. 1 strength = 2 weapon attack, so just eat the Strength Grass. |
不 | ○ | Unlucky Seed | Negative seal that simply decreases weapon attack. |
超 | × | Disaster Seed | Lowers Shiren's level by 1 every time he swings the weapon. |
祓 | × | Purify Scroll | Protects only the weapon with this seal from becoming cursed. Synthesize this onto a shield to protect bracelets instead. |
銀 | × | Silver Arrow | You lose the ability to synthesize using Mixers, and the weapon is permanently lost if it gets disarmed by a Kengo monster. |
Shield
Seal | Stack | Item | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
サ | × | Nirvana Shield | Max fullness doesn't return to normal when the shield is unequipped, but can be increased again by eating Expand Seeds or onigiri. Equip the shield when your max fullness is 0% to increase it to 1%. |
見 | ○ | Evasive Shield | Evading more attacks means reduced effectiveness of 弟, 眠, and バ. That said, it's usually more advantageous to use this seal. |
う | × | Scale Shield | Protects strength from poison arrows, Poison Grass, and Scorpions, but doesn't block strength lowering Sluggy licks. |
バ | ○ | Counter Shield | The stronger your shield, the less damage you reflect. Rancor Sluggy and Venom Sluggy can divide from reflected damage. The reflect animation slows down the pace of the game. |
幸 | ○ | Happy Shield | The stronger your shield, the less exp you gain. |
銭 | ○ | Froggo Shield | The stronger your shield, the less Gitan you gain. It doesn't provide much Gitan either way, so it's a wasted slot. |
重 | × | Heavy Shield | Purely negative seal that doubles your hunger rate. |
捨 | × | Disposable Shield | Lowers shield upgrade value every time you receive damage. |
飯 | ○ | Onigiri (Not Spoiled) | Occasionally turns you into an onigiri when you receive damage. |
消 | × | Antidote Grass | Protects strength from poison arrows, Poison Grass, and Scorpions, but doesn't block strength lowering Sluggy licks. |
命 | ○ | Life Grass | Increases shield strength by 2, but not worth a synthesis slot. |
幸 | ○ | Happy Grass | The stronger your shield, the less exp you gain. |
天 | ○ | Angel Seed | Synthesize it onto a weapon instead of a shield. |
不 | ○ | Unlucky Seed | Negative seal that simply decreases shield defense. |
超 | × | Disaster Seed | Lowers Shiren's level by 1 every time he receives damage. |
銀 | × | Silver Arrow | You lose the ability to synthesize using Mixers, and the shield is permanently lost if it gets disarmed by a Kengo monster. |
