Traps

Overview

Traps are found on the ground and activate when stepped on,
or when an object is thrown or dropped on top of them.

Allies who are thrown onto traps receive the same effect as Shiren stepping on them,
but ally monsters receive the same effect of an enemy monster stepping on them.

Example: Asuka's current HP is halved when she is thrown onto a Landmine,
but an ally Mamel that is thrown onto a Landmine instantly collapses.

Traps can be destroyed by splashing water on them from a Water Pot.
However, traps can't be destroyed by explosions or the effect of a Flood Trap.
Traps thrown into water will vanish with the message "[Trap name] disappeared..."
Piko Hammers can destroy visible traps, and a Knockback Staff can be used to send
a trap flying, dealing a small amount of damage to a target and making the trap vanish.

Hidden traps can't be detected by the [Ground] menu option.
Swinging a Mallet over a tile with a hidden trap will reveal the trap without destroying it,
and swinging the Mallet again over the visible trap will destroy the trap.
Hidden traps can be destroyed in one turn using a Mallet if Shiren ate Sight Grass.

Damage dealt by traps increases as Shiren levels up when he has Trapper status,
but Shiren's level is not a factor for damage dealt when he doesn't have Trapper status.

Trap List

Dmg: Damage dealt by the trap when Shiren doesn't have Trapper status.
Break: Chance of a trap breaking when Shiren has Trapper status.

Hits all characters in a 1-tile radius around the trap,
including underwater and frozen monsters.
Arrow Arrow 5 10% A Wooden Arrow comes flying from the right side of the direction
the character is facing, dealing 5 damage.
Can be evaded using Dodge Shield or Reflect Shield.
The arrow can be collected if dodged or reflected at a wall.
The arrow pierces through walls until it hits something.
Iron Arrow Iron Arrow 10 10% An Iron Arrow comes flying from the right side of the direction
the character is facing, dealing 10 damage.
Otherwise it's the same as Arrow Trap.
Poison Poison 3~6 10% A Poison Arrow comes flying from the right side of the direction
the character is facing, dealing 3~6 damage and lowering strength.
Can be evaded using Dodge Shield or Reflect Shield.
The arrow can't be collected if dodged or reflected at a wall,
and Mixers can't swallow poison arrows.
The arrow pierces through walls until it hits something.

Shiren or ally: Lower strength by 1 point.
Monster: Lower strength to 0. (Direct attacks deal 1 damage)
Log Log 3~7 8% A log comes flying from the right side of the direction the
character is facing, dealing 3~7 damage and knockback.
Pitfall Pitfall 3~6 100% Deals 3~6 damage and makes you advance to the floor below.
The floor advancing effect is nullified in areas like Napus Storage,
boss rooms, or Shuffle Dungeon maps (excluding Shuten Mid 12F).

Monster: The monster falls into a void and vanishes.
(Monsters defeated using Pitfalls never drop items).
Trip Trip Stone 2~4 10% Deals 2~4 damage, and makes you drop items in front of you.
Equipped items are never dropped when tripped.
Carry a Balance Staff in your inventory to avoid tripping.
Hoarding Statue prevents dropping items when tripped.

Monster: Deals 2~4 damage, and makes the monster drop 1 item.
(Only 1 item can be obtained per monster)
Landmine Landmine 50% 8% Deals damage equal to 50% of Shiren's current HP.
Shiren will collapse if he steps on it with 1 HP remaining.
Destroys items, monsters, and walls in a 1-tile radius.
Nearby explosions will also activate it. (excluding Cannonballs)
Big Landmine Big Landmine 75% 8% Same as Landmine, but deals damage equal to 75% of current HP.
Flood Flood 75% 100% Deals damage equal to 75% of current HP to all characters.
No effect on frozen monsters, and sleeping monsters wake up.
Changes the position of items, characters, and statues.
Turns onigiri into Spoiled Onigiri, and scrolls into Wet Scrolls.
Onigiri and scrolls inside pots aren't affected by the flood.

If a shop was present, the entire floor will be treated as a shop,
and Shopkeepers will wander in search for the stairs.
Patient Bags will be sealed as a result of the flood.
Floods can't occur in Shuffle Dungeon maps.
Rust Rust - 13% Lowers equipped weapon and shield upgrade values by 1.
No effect on plated (金 seal) or innately rustproof equipment.
If activated by a thrown item, its upgrade value is lowered by 1.

Monster: Lower defense to 0.
Slows Boy Cart, Pop Tank, and Cranky Tank.
Summon Summon - 100% Summons 4 identical monsters from the floor's monster table.
Summons fewer than 4 if there isn't enough room, but can summon
inside water or walls if the chosen monster can traverse those tiles.

Monsters will act immediately after being summoned if the trap
was activated using the [Ground] menu option, by a thrown item,
or if stepped on while Shiren has Slow status.
Spin Spin - 15% Confuses the character that stepped on it for 10 turns.

Monster: Confuses the monster that stepped on it for 20 turns.
Strip Strip - 13% Unequips all equipped items. (weapon, shield, bracelets, projectile)
Can't be used to free your hand from a Sticky Pot.

Monster: Permanently seals the monster.
Spoil Spoil - 8% Turns all onigiri that aren't inside pots into Spoiled Onigiri.
If the trap is activated by a thrown onigiri,
the item will turn into a Spoiled Onigiri.

Monster: Turns the monster into a Spoiled Onigiri, defeating it.
(Monsters defeated by a Spoil Trap never drop items)
Bear Bear - 6% Makes you unable to move for 3~7 turns.
Characters caught in a Bear Trap can't evade attacks.
Slow Slow - 10% Slows action speed for 10 turns.

Monster: Permanently slows action speed.
(Sealing a monster cancels the effect)
Sleep Sleep - 15% Puts a character to sleep for 5 turns.
Characters that are sleeping can't evade attacks.
Spring Spring - 10% Warps the character or item to a random location on the floor.
Monster Monster - - Transforms items in the room into monsters.
Merchandise inside shops will also transform into monsters.
No effect on items underfoot or scrolls stuck to the ground.
If activated by a thrown item, only the thrown item transforms.
Chain Chain - 7% Triggers other traps in a 1-tile radius, beginning from the top
and moving in a clockwise direction.

Only found inside Halfway Well.
One-Way One-Way - 15% Foces anyone who steps on it to move in the pointed direction.
The direction of the arrow is based on the direction Shiren is facing
when the trap is placed, but it can't point diagonally.

Trap Damage

Trap damage scales with Shiren's level when he has Trapper status.

Key: Level, Droplet, Arrow, Burr, Iron Arrow, Rockfall, Rockslide, Trip Stone, Poison, Pitfall, Log.

Experience Points

Shiren with Trapper status gains exp equal to 95% of the normal amount when he defeats
an enemy using a trap, or 75% of the normal amount if the trap doesn't defeat the enemy.
However, Spoil Trap will be the same amount as not defeating an enemy using a trap.
Shiren only gains 20% of the normal amount if he defeats enemies using direct attacks.

Chain Trap Experience Points

Chain Traps activate all other traps in a 1-tile radius, potentially granting lots of exp.
The chain can be continued by placing traps at the end points of One-Way and Log traps,
or by placing Landmines in close proximity so that they explode one after the other.
The formula used in calculating experience points in a trap chain is shown below.

n = Number of traps that trapped an enemy prior to the Chain Trap activating.
m = Numer of Chain Traps that triggered due to a trap that moves an enemy (max: 1),
or the number of Landmines that exploded away from a Chain Trap.
N = Number of traps that trapped an enemy due to a Chain Trap activating.
M = Number of traps activated by a Chain Trap that didn't trap an enemy.
L = Number of Landmines that exploded within a 1-tile radius of a Chain Trap.
(L isn't included in M, and the number of Chain Traps isn't counted for n or N)

Exp = Normal amount * 0.75 *
[n^2 + n * m * (2 * N + 1) + 0.5 * N * (N + 3) + M * (n + 1) + L * (n + N / 2)]

However, a Chain Trap on its own: Exp = Normal amount * (3 / 4)

If the trap defeated an enemy, the following is added to the amount of exp:

Normal amount * (1 / 5) * (n + N)

Multiplier Table

This section shows the exp multiplier for a chain where the enemy is not defeated,
and when there aren't any traps that fail to trap an enemy, including explosion chains.

n = Number of traps that successfully trapped an enemy prior to the Chain Trap activating.
N = Number of traps that successfully trapped an enemy due to a Chain Trap activating.
m = Number of Chain Traps (max: 1)
