Road to the End

The ultimate gameplay experience of Shiren 2.
Most items and monsters in the game appear in this dungeon,
and bracelets, grass, staves, pots, and scrolls are found unidentified.

Each run can play out in different ways based on the items you find,
the actions you take, the knowledge and strategies you use,
and of course, last but not least, how good your luck is.

It has a higher difficulty thanks to a carefully balanced monster table.
In particular, monsters like Megataur, Gigahead, Emperor Tusker, Typhoon,
and Stun Scorpion appear from 86F, often making for an intense final stretch.

Escape Scrolls can be found on 30F, 50F, and 70F,
but the 30F won't be generated if you enter the 2nd Golden Interval.

If you successfully reach the end, you'll find yourself arriving at a strange
new area unlike any other location in the game, and your save file
will gain a Shiren icon.

Important Items

3 Sacred Treasures

The most important items are Healing Sword, Scout Bracelet, and Phantasm Bracelet.
These 3 items are so powerful, they're called the 3 sacred treasures by some players.

Scout Bracelet eliminates the risk of surprise attacks.
Phantasm Bracelet lets you defeat enemies from inside walls without being attacked.
Healing Sword covers for the HP loss while inside walls.

Since you don't get attacked, you don't need to worry about upgrading a shield,
and monsters with tricky close-range attacks like Shihan aren't a threat.
Bracelets only crack when damaged, so you won't lose the bracelets either.

That said, Golden Intervals, water floors without walls, and monsters like
N'dubba and Pumphantasm can be an issue, so some care is needed.

Phantasm Bracelet is the rarest of the three, since Scout Bracelet and the ingredients
for Healing Sword can be found on the ground, even if they're on the rare side.

Increase your chances of obtaining these items by following these tips:

  1. Always identify bracelets that might be Scout Bracelet before discarding them.
  2. Never eat unidentified grass items in case Herb or Life Grass is among them.
  3. Steal from shops so that you can purchase 10,000G bracelets from Traders.

Some adventures will be unluckier than others, such as never finding a Monster Pot
or being unable to locate the stairs leading to the 1st and 2nd Golden Interval,
but it's very rare to not obtain these sacred treasures if you aim for them.

You're basically set if you obtain them by 30F, and you'll want to have obtained
them by the time you reach 60F at the latest, along with 2~3 Revival Grass.

  • Healing Sword
    • Restores HP equal to 1/3 of damage dealt, out of the target's remaining HP.
Made by synthesizing 薬 (Herb), 弟 (Otogiriso), and 命 (Life Grass) onto a weapon.
Great with Phantasm Bracelet, especially if you banish Typhoon from the dungeon.
Plays well with 三 (Razor Wind), as you heal more HP by hitting multiple enemies.
Aim to have it synthesized before proceeding past 20F. (Mixermon floors)
  • Scout Bracelet
    • Reveals the location of monsters, items, and statues on the map.
Lets you avoid surprise attacks in hallways, and you can tell if there are
shops or Monster Houses at a glance.
Unequip it before fighting, and read a Plating Scroll on it if it cracks.
Found on the ground, in shops, or from using an ally Shihan's special attack.
  • Phantasm Bracelet
    • Lets you move inside walls and walk over water.
You can also warp by unequipping it while inside a wall or above water.
You'll lose HP equal to 1/20 of your max HP per turn inside walls,
so it's important to synthesize the 回 seal and possible multiple 弟 seals.
Obtained from shops or traders - it can't be found on the ground.

Weapon

Main Weapon

Dragon Killer, Dotanuki, Spark Sword, and Ivory Sword are all good options.
You can make up for the lack of base attack by increasing strength,
so prioritize a weapon with many synthesis slots.

NameAtkSlotNotes
Ryujin Sword257+龍Strongest main weapon, but unlikely to obtain 4 Dragon Killers
without the use of an ally Armordillo Pop or Shihan,
and Monster Pots are incredibly rare before 30F.
Dragon Killer157+竜High attack, slot count, and effective against Dragon types.
Basically a better Dotanuki, but only found in Golden Intervals.
Spark Sword76+ス100% accuracy + critical hit after missing twice.
Effectively has 7 slots, making it second to Dragon Killer.
Dotanuki126Good balance of attack and slot count,
and is much more common than the top tier options.
Kabura's Blade185Only 5 slots, but has high attack to make up for it.
Found in Golden Intervals or from a Presto Pot.
Ivory Sword134Decent attack and rustproof, but only 4 slots.
It's best to transfer to a weapon with more slots by mid game.
Katana105Good early game option.
Drain Buster65+ドLow attack, but effectively has 6 slots.
Lets you hunt Twisty Hanis for exp and item drops.
Ghost Sickle55+仏Similar in performance to Drain Buster.
Not bad if you can't find a Dotanuki or Spark Sword.
Ironhead's Head97Strongest option among two-handed weapons.
Chainheads only appear between 17~19F, so it's quite rare.
Spear67Basically a worse Ironhead's Head, but far more common.

Weapon Seals

The most important seals are 三, 回, and 飯.
三 and 回 greatly help with fighting enemies, and 飯 reduces the risk of starvation.

Don't synthesize 飯 onto your weapon if you only have 1 onigiri on hand,
unless you have a Leather Shield or are ready to perform Nigiri Morph Factory (9~10F).

If you have a Disposable Shield and Dried Bonito, synthesize the か seal
onto the Disposable Sword to turn it into a long-lasting food source.

After the above, ド, 仏, and 目 are nice options to increase your damage output.
However, type effective seals are dead weight on floors where the corresponding type
of monster doesn't appear, so some prefer 弟, 眠, and ス instead.

In any case, it's best to focus synthesizing seals that help early and mid game
more than late game, since you need to survive the former in the first place.

SealTierItemNotes
SRazor WindLets you attack in 3 forward directions.
Plays well with Scout and Phantasm bracelets, Healing Sword.
Particularly helpful for Monster Houses and Summon Traps.
SHealing SwordRestore HP equal to 1/3 of damage dealt, out of target's remaining HP.
Provides an immense advantage in fights involving direct attacks.
Herb and Life Grass are rare, so identify grass items carefully.
ADrain BusterDeal x1.5 damage to Drain type monsters.
(Sluggy, Hunger Puppet, Scorpion families, and Twisty Hani)
AOnigiri items
(except Spoiled)
4% chance for a defeated enemy to drop an Onigiri.
Better than 皮 since it lets you obtain food inside Golden Intervals.
You'll want at least this or 皮, and some players synthesize both.
AOtogirisoRestore 4 HP when your direct attack connects.
Use alongside 回 to increase the amount of HP you restore.
For 1-on-1 fights, 弟 on a weapon > shield, since it activates twice.
(Shiren attacks → gets hit → attacks and defeats the monster)
Always go with weapon over shield if using a Phantasm Bracelet.
BPlating ScrollRead a Plating Scroll and select a weapon to add a red 金 seal to it.
Monsoon Dolls always erase red 金 seals before others, so this
protects key seals like 回 or 三 from 1 use of its special attack.
(Protecting upgrade value is more of a bonus)
BSlumber Scroll8% chance to put the monster you attacked to sleep.
Most effective when Shiren's attack power / strength is low.
BSpark SwordDeal a 100% accuracy critical hit after missing twice.
Homing Blade can't be found in this dungeon, so it can be nice.
However, Spark Sword is an excellent main weapon option,
so don't synthesize it unless you have a Dragon Killer or such.
BGhost SickleDeal x1.5 damage to Ghost type monsters.
(Yamikichi, Gale, Pumphantasm, and Bone Dragon families)
BCyclops KillerDeal x1.5 damage to Cyclops type monsters.
Lower priority if you have 山 (Echo Shield) on your shield.
(Gazer, Ironhead, and Golem families)
CDragon KillerDeal x1.5 damage to Dragon type monsters.
Almost never synthesized since Dragon Killer itself is so strong.
(Dragon, Shagga, Bone Dragon, Shotfish, and Aqua Dragon families)
CGolden SwordMonsoon Dolls will NOT prioritize erasing this blue 金 seal.
The main reason for synthesizing 金 is to protect valuable seals,
so a red 金 seal from a Plating Scroll should be used instead.
CMinotaur's Axe35% chance to deal a x1.5 damage critical hit.
Dropped by Taur family monsters between 78~99F.
Almost never used, since by 78F you should have finalized synthesis.
CHappy GrassEarn x1.1 exp when you defeat an enemy using a direct attack.
Stack at least 2 幸 seals (x1.4 exp) to make it worthwhile.
CAngel SeedEarn x1.5 exp when you defeat an enemy using a direct attack.
It's strong, but Angel Seeds should be used with Boost Grass
and Grass Gainer to rapidly increase Shiren's level instead.

Secondary Weapon

  • Pickaxe
    • Particularly useful when you haven't found a Phantasm Bracelet.
Dig a path before stealing, thin out enemies before entering a Monster House,
create a hallway if you're about to be surrounded, etc.
  • Disposable Sword + Dried Bonito
    • Synthesize the か seal onto the Disposable Sword to turn it into
a food source worth 10 Large Onigiri. (1050% fullness)
  • Ironhead's Head + Fish Spear
    • Safely defeat underwater monsters like Shotfish, Spearfish, Orcan.
However, Porky Stones can hit underwater enemies, and Shotfish can be ignored,
so you might get more use out of the weapon by synthesizing 火 seals.

Weapon Examples

This section provides examples for main weapon + synthesis combinations.
You won't always come across the items needed to create these sets,
and some of it comes down to preference, so keep that in mind.

Aim to synthesize 3~5 seals onto both your weapon and shield before leaving 20F.
Focus on creating the strongest equipment you can make given your options,
instead of trying to get by without synthesizing until you find ideal items.
Seals are more impactful than small increases in upgrade value.

Seal slots are limited in Shiren 2, so players tend to hesitate with synthesis.
However, you'll find out that equipment with only 1~2 seals won't be enough
once you go past Mixermon floors and run into Monarch Tuskers, Sky Dragons, etc.
You might survive if you found powerful items like Scout Bracelet or Echo Shield,
but it'll be an uphill which could've been avoided by being less stingy.

It's fine to synthesize any of the S, A, or B tier seals as you come across them,
but avoid stacking seals with the exception of 弟, and if you haven't obtained a
Razor Wind or Healing Sword, go ahead and leave 1 slot open.
You can also increase slots by synthesizing Blank Scrolls.

The listed upgrade values are the final values after clearing the dungeon.
It's possible to clear the dungeon with +10 or even +0 depending on your other items,
and increasing strength has a much more visible effect on damage output,
so don't put too much thought into weapon upgrade values.

  • Dragon Killer+25 (三回飯金ド仏目)
    • Use Dragon Killer as a main weapon if you find a Golden Interval.
三 to hit multiple enemies at once, and 回 to restore your HP.
竜 (Innate) + ド仏目 gives you an advantage against certain types.
飯 for occasional Onigiri drops. Plays well with 皮 on a shield.
金 (Red) protects upgrade value and other seals from 1 use
      of Monsoon Doll's special attack.
  • Dotanuki+15 (三回飯金眠弟)
    • Use Dotanuki or Spark Sword if you didn't find a Golden Interval.
This example uses 眠 and 弟 instead of type effective seals,
which is better against monsters without a type like Shihan.
  • Spark Sword+10 (三回弟弟弟弟)
    • This example skips 飯, type effective seals, and 金 for more healing.
It's extremely effective when you have Phantasm and Scout bracelets,
since it allows you to remain inside walls for a longer duration.
Increase strength to cover for the lower base attack.

Shield

Main Shield

Shields in Shiren 2 are less effective at reducing damage taken than Shiren 1 (SFC).
For example, a shield with 11 defense reduces damage by ~50% in Shiren 1,
but you need 50 defense to reduce damage by 50% in Shiren 2.
It's ~2 defense per 1 point of damage, so you can see why 弟 is so popular,
as it reduces damage by 4 points and can be synthesized very easily.

Damage taken between an Ivory Shield and Leather Shield (8 defense difference)
typically only differs by 1~2 points early game, so abilities and seals are prioritized.
20 defense reduces damage taken by ~25%, so perhaps just aim for that.

That said, shields with higher defense are still more advantageous early game,
and only fall behind lower defense + higher slot shields once all seal slots are filled.
So if you tend to struggle early to mid game, go with higher base defense.

Dragon Shield, Ivory Shield, Walrus Shield, and Leather Shield are all good options.
Ivory if you want to focus on defense, Walrus for seal count, Leather for a balance,
and Dragon if you find a Golden Interval.

A popular flow is to equip Leather Shield until ~10F, and then synthesize 皮 onto
an Ivory Shield for higher defense, followed by transferring to a Walrus Shield
or Dragon Shield around 30F.

NameDefSlotNotes
Fuuma Shield166Strong, but it can only be obtained from a Presto Pot.
Don't expect to ever encounter it.
Dragon Shield145+竜14 defense and an innate 竜 to reduce fire damage.
Archdragons (30~59F) can be problematic, so some
players fill a Dragon Shield with 弟 as a counter.
Ivory Shield125+金Higher defense and rustproof, so it effectively has 6 seals.
It's also on the common side.
Leather Shield45+皮金Innate 皮 and 金, so it effectively has 7 seal slots.
Keep it equipped early on (1~8F) so you don't starve.
The rustproof ability won't transfer if synthesized.
Walrus Shield66+トInnate ト, so it effectively has 7 seal slots.
Shines during the second half vs. Gyandora (50~80F).
Blast Shield85+爆Helps against Pop Tank early game,
and reduces risk of accidents involving landmines.
Scale Shield65+うProtects strength against Scorpions and poison arrows,
making it a nice early game shield to keep equipped.
Most players don't synthesize う onto a main shield though.
Beetle Shield105Decent for early game if you can't find anything else.
No innate abilities, so it's easy to transfer to a better shield.

Shield Seals

The most important seals are 皮, 山, 見, and 弟.
山 protects against Gazer hypnosis and King Tusker family magic.
見 is overshadowed a bit by the others, but a higher chance of evading attacks
means bracelets last longer, so don't underestimate its value.
Echo Shield and Evasive Shield are shop-exclusive, so try not to collapse
if you're lucky enough to obtain them.

う and 消 prevent strength loss from poison arrows, Scorpions (8F),
and Poison Grass, but it doesn't prevent strength loss from Sluggy licks,
so consider it a nice option for early game only - not worth synthesizing
unless you hate stepping on Poison Traps.

Really, just eat Antidote Grass to restore strength, and losing a few points
won't have much impact once you've increased your max strength.

爆 and 金 are a lower priority, but offer protection against landmines
and 1 use of Monsoon Doll's special attack, respectively.

SealTierItemNotes
SEcho ShieldReflects magic, countering Gazer, Sheep Priest, and King Tusker.
Don't forget to unequip the shield when using Grass Gainer.
SEvasive ShieldIncreases Shiren's chance to evade direct attacks to 35%,
but lowers the effectiveness of 弟, バ, and 眠 a bit.
ALeather ShieldHalves hunger rate, and especially nice early game.
The rustproof ability won't transfer if you synthesize the shield.
AWalrus ShieldZaloklefts don't appear in Road to the End, and Froggos
aren't an issue, so it's basically for Gyadon monsters.
Gyandoras can erase seals, so aim to synthesize it by 50F.
AOtogirisoRestores 4 HP when you get hit by an attack.
Stacking additional 弟 seals restores ~3 HP per seal.
BPlating ScrollLosing upgrade value can be a downer, so it can be nice.
Monsoon Dolls always erase red 金 seals before others,
so this protects other seals from 1 use of its special attack.
BSlumber Scroll8% chance to put an enemy that attacked you to sleep. (5 turns)
Nice against swift monsters or those that can slow or paralyze.
BBlast ShieldLowers damage of landmines, Bomber Statue, Explosion Scroll,
Pop Tank blasts, Wolf Droid bombs, and Patient Bag explosions.
It's worth synthesizing if you're worried about landmines.
BCounter ShieldReflects a portion of damage received back at the enemy.
Most effective when your attack power is low, but it can
make Rancor Sluggy and Venom Sluggy divide.
BDragon ShieldReduces fire damage by 30%.
Archdragons appear until 59F, so it's basically a mid game seal.
A shield with 竜+火 reduces fire damage by 50%. (30% + 20%)
CHoly Shield
Purify Scroll
Protects against Straw Voodoll curses.
A curse (呪) is counted as a seal, so it can restrict synthesis.
Particularly nice if you have Scout and Phantasm bracelets.
う消CScale Shield
Antidote Grass
Prevents strength loss from Scorpions (8F) and poison arrows.
Not worth synthesizing unless you really hate Poison Traps.
CHappy Shield
Happy Grass
Good option early game, and plays well with 弟.
However, it becomes useless by mid game, so you're better
off synthesizing Happy Grass onto a weapon instead.
CFlame Grass
Dragon Grass
Reduces fire damage by 20%, and easier to obtain than 竜.
Consider synthesizing it if you're low on 弟 going into 30F.

Shield Examples

  • Walrus Shield+10 (山見皮金爆う)
    • Use Walrus Shield if you want lots of slots.
山 and 見 are rare, but should be synthesized if you find them.
皮 prevents starvation - you can skip 飯 on a weapon if you have it.
金 (Red) protects upgrade value and other seals from Monsoon Doll.
爆 and う are preference. Use 弟 instead if desired.
  • Leather Shield+10 (山見ト爆う)
    • Use Leather Shield if you're not worried about Monsoon Doll.
Plating Scroll can be used to repair a cracked bracelet instead.
Again, 爆 and う are preference. Use 弟 instead if desired.
  • Ivory Shield+15 (皮バ眠弟弟)
    • Use Ivory Shield if you want a shield capable of taking hits.
Go with 弟, バ, and 眠 to give you an advantage in regular fights.
Particularly nice prior to obtaining Scout and Phantasm bracelets.
Replace 皮 with 弟 if you've secured a food source elsewhere.
  • Dragon Shield+5 (火祓弟弟弟)
    • Use Dragon Shield as a secondary shield for Archdragon floors.
Also effective against Dragons and Sky Dragons between 22~29F.
      Innate 竜 + 火 increases the fire reduction to 50% (30% + 20%).
祓 counters Nailed Voodoll and Spiked Voodoll between 40~59F.

High Priority Items

These aren't quite as powerful as Healing Sword and Scout and Phantasm bracelets,
but still get you closer to clearing the dungeon depending on how you use them.

Revival Grass to bounce back from accidental collapses,
Strength Grass + Boost Grass + Grass Gainer or Grass Tosser to increase strength,
Leather Shield, Possession Staff, and Restock Scroll help you collect items, etc.

  • Leather Shield
    • Halves hunger rate, essentially doubling your fullness.
Food is scarce early on in this dungeon, so keep it equipped if you find it.
Often used as a main shield, but it's fine to synthesize it onto a shield
with higher defense (Ivory or Dragon), or one with more slots (Walrus).
Not essential if you manage to create a Disposable Sword with the か seal.
  • Pierce Bracelet
    • Bracelet that can be good or bad depending on how you use it.
Throw items like Gitan, Poison Grass, or Flame Grass at a line of monsters,
Thin out enemies inside a Monster House before entering it, etc.
Always unequip it after you're done using it, or else you risk losing items
when you try to synthesize using Mixer monsters.
Shopkeepers and Traders will turn hostile if an item or arrow hits them,
and the bracelet turns into a liability if it becomes cursed.
  • Blank Scroll
    • Write the name of any scroll you've read in the past, and use it as that scroll.
Blank:Extinction goes without saying for Archdragon or Typhoon,
Blank:Sanctuary can be reused if you have a Water Pot,
synthesize it with a weapon or shield to increase slot count by 1,
Blank:Great Hall to search for Golden Intervals,
Blank:Restock to hunt for shop-exclusive items like Phantasm Bracelet,
Blank:Plating to repair cracked Scout or Phantasm bracelets, etc.
Rare early on, but has a higher spawn rate from 50F. (Usually 2~3 per run)
  • Great Hall Scroll
    • Used to try and locate Golden Stairs between 6~10F, 24~29F, and 90~95F.
Golden Intervals provide strong items like Dragon Killer and Dragon Shield,
so it's worth keeping any Great Hall Scrolls you come across.
Bomber, Sleep, and No Magic statues can cause problems if they're present.
Also used to steal from shops, or to rush stairs on Archdragon floors.
  • Restock Scroll
    • Basically lets you obtain up to an additional 9 items if read inside a shop,
including shop-exclusives like Echo and Evasive shields, Phantasm Bracelet,
or generally rare items like Razor Wind and Scout Bracelet.
Don't discard any Restock Scrolls you come across.
  • Otogiriso
    • Restore 100 HP, increase max HP by 4, synthesize it onto a weapon or shield,
use it to create a Healing Sword, or throw it at a Ghost type monster.
Recommended to synthesize it onto a weapon or shield to increase
your chances of progressing past early game, though some players skip
弟 seals if they obtain stronger, rarer seals like 三, 回, 山, and 見.
Keep 2~3 on hand for Archdragon and Porkon floors.
  • Revival Grass
    • Fully restores HP, strength, and fullness if you collapse.
Recommended to keep at least 1~3 outside of pots at all times.
Don't get lazy or let your guard down just because you have Revival Grass.
Hunt Mr. Gyro (50~59F) for Revival Grass drops if possible. (75% drop rate)
Can't be found on the ground starting from 51F.
  • Strength Grass + Boost Grass + Grass Gainer or Grass Tosser
    • Used to rapidly raise max strength to increase Shiren's damage output.
1 strength is equal to 2 weapon attack, so +10 strength is +20 weapon attack.
Strength also increases arrow damage, so never waste Strength Grass.
    • Grass Gainer method:
      1. Insert Strength Grass into Grass Gainer.
      2. Unequip shield if it has 山.
      3. Eat Boost Grass.
      4. Swing Strength Gainer.
    • Grass Tosser method:
      1. Insert Strength Grass into Grass Tosser.
      2. Prepare a character that reflects magic (Asst. Manager, Escargon, etc.).
      3. Eat Boost Grass.
      4. Swing Strength Tosser.
  • Possession Staff
    • Have a monster defeat a possessed enemy to level it up,
take control of an Armordillo or Kengo family monster to collect items,
collect arrows using Bow Boy or Boy Cart, remove curses by taking control
of Straw Voodoll monsters, obtain food using a Nigiri Master,
use a Tiger Tosser and Trip Stone to collect items, etc.

Other Items

Bracelet

  • Strength Bracelet
    • It might not sound like much, but +3 strength is pretty strong for early game.
Use it until it cracks, and then sell it for 3400G.
  • Level Lock Bracelet
    • Twisty Hanis have a high item drop rate, and this lets you hunt them safely.
It's the only bracelet with a purchase price of 3000G / selling price of 1500G.
  • Salty Bracelet
    • Scale Shield (う or 消 seal) can't block Sluggy licks, so you'll need this bracelet.
Especially nice on floors where Rancor Sluggy or Venom Sluggy appears.
  • Dragon Tile Bracelet
    • Shop-exclusive, and only found until 29F.
Lets you collect items using a Trip Stone, or make use of other traps.
It's needed to create Daisangen equipment, so try to bring it home safely.
  • Paper Thin Bracelet
    • Shop-exclusive, and only found until 29F.
The added evasion is nice, but it costs 15000G so you'll likely have to steal it.
It burns up if you take fire damage, so don't use it on Archdragon floors.
  • Heal Bracelet
    • Shop-exclusive, and only found starting on 71F.
Powerful effect, but there's not much use for it by the time you can obtain it.

Staff

  • Grass Gainer
    • Insert Strength Grass and swing it to increase Shiren's max strength.
Don't forget to eat Boost Grass before swinging it.
  • Grass Tosser
    • Insert Strength Grass and swing it at a character that reflects magic,
including Taishodon, Escargon, Asst. Manager, or Manager.
You can level up a Shopkeeper early on using a Tiger Tosser or Pop Tank.
  • Swap Staff
    • Escape when you're sandwiched in a hallway, reflect it off of a wall to
move a Shopkeeper outside of a store to steal, swing it at a Bored Kappa
monster when they're standing on an item, etc.
  • Knockback Staff
    • One-shots Cave Mamels, and plays well with arrows and Fire Staff.
Can be used to reposition stairs, making it easier to steal.
  • Happy Staff
    • Level up an Armordillo or Kengo before capturing it using a Monster Pot,
or before using a Possession Staff to collect items.
  • Seal Staff
    • Prevents a monster from being able to use their special attack.
Good targets include Shihan, Tiger Chucker, Water Strider, Cranky Tank, etc.
  • Balance Staff
    • Protects pots from shattering or items falling into water.
Can be thrown at a Trader to make them drop some of their merchandise.
  • Slow Staff
    • Loop attack → retreat 1 step → attack to safely defeat an enemy.
  • Miss Staff
    • Makes a target's direct attacks always miss.
However, they can still use ranged or special attacks.
Direct attacks always hit Shiren if he's paralyzed, regardless of this effect.
  • Quarter Staff
    • Reduces a target's HP to 1/4 of its current value.
Use it against monsters that have high HP, or when you lack strength.
  • Fire Staff
    • Handles unintended monster level ups, along with monsters in hallways.
Swing a Knockback Staff afterward to deal 80~100 damage.
Can be used to destroy statues and scrolls stuck to the ground in 1 turn.
  • Invisible Staff
    • Occasionally dropped by Devil Kangaroo.
Invisible enemies won't use special attacks, so it can be used like Seal Staff.
Swing it at an Escargon to turn Shiren invisible.

Scroll

  • Extinction Scroll
    • Typically thrown at Archdragon, Cranky Tank, Shihan, or Typhoon.
Which one depends on your equipment, seals, and items, so think carefully.
Remember to check for Trickster Mask or Impostor Mask (47~90F)!
  • Identify Scroll
    • Identifies a selected item - think carefully before choosing.
Prioritize grass items to try and find Herb, Life Grass, and Strength Grass.
Pots are also an option since they can't be identified using an Identify Pot.
  • Plating Scroll
    • Repair a cracked bracelet, or add a red 金 seal to a weapon or shield.
Keep multiple on hand for Scout and Phantasm bracelets if possible.
  • Purify Scroll
    • Basically the only way to remove curses besides using a Possession Staff
to take control of a Straw Voodoll family monster.
  • Evaporate Scroll
    • Collect items from islands, or retrieve items that fell in water.
Freeze, Great Hall, and Sanctaruy scrolls can be used in a similar way.
  • Sanctuary Scroll
    • Escape tricky situations, or use it to clear out a Monster House.
Remember that ranged attacks like Porkon's stone toss can still hit you.
  • Slumber Scroll
    • Escape tricky situations by inflicting sleep for 10 turns.
Monsters have increased action speed (1 stage) when they wake up.
Nice in case you step on a Summon Trap, and can also be synthesized.
  • Fear Scroll
    • Escape tricky situations.
It has limited range, but works on monsters that are inside walls.
  • Shadow Scroll
    • Escape tricky situations.
No downsides, and it can be used to get a break from Archdragon fire.
Shadows won't appear if the character count is at the floor's limit.
  • Sturdy Pot Scroll
    • Only use it on Storage, Water, or Monster pots.
  • Pot Expand Scroll
    • Highly recommended to use it on Storage Pots.
  • Suction Scroll
    • Reuse Identify Pots early game, or Presto Pots mid to late game.
  • Explosion Scroll
    • Dangerous to keep on hand, and can appear from Presto or Surprise pots,
so it's best to avoid using direct attacks until you've checked the items
after breaking either of those pots.
  • Escape Scroll
    • Found on the ground on 30F, 50F, and 70F - pointless if aiming for 99F.
That said, some players like to keep one on hand in case they find a
rare item like Upgrade Pot or Dragon Tile Bracelet.

Grass

  • Herb
    • Used to create a Healing Sword.
It's roughly as rare as Life Grass, and can be identified by price.
  • Life Grass
    • Used to create a Healing Sword.
Increases max HP by 5, but never eat it before obtaining a Healing Sword.
  • Strength Grass
    • Insert it into a Grass Gainer or Grass Tosser to increase max strength.
Mr. Drone always drops Strength Grass, so it's easy to identify.
  • Antidote Grass
    • It's worth keeping one on hand if you aren't using a Scale Shield (う or 消).
  • Happy Grass
    • Occasionally dropped by Mr. Helico.
Throw it at a monster and defeat it to level up early game,
throw it at a Mixer to increase the number of items it can eat,
or throw it at a Mr. Helico in hopes of obtaining Revival Grass, etc.
  • Boost Grass
    • Save it for Strength Grass and either Grass Gainer or Grass Tosser.
Can be used before eating Otogiriso or Happy Grass if you have multiple.
  • Swift Grass
    • Increases your action speed by 1 stage.
Use it if you're nearly surrounded, or to defeat a single strong enemy.
  • Warp Grass
    • Escape tricky situations, such as stepping on a Summon Trap
or starting the floor inside a Monster House.
  • Sight Grass
    • Use it at the start of a floor, or if you found a shop or Monster House.
Also makes it easier to perform Nigiri Morph Factory between 9~10F.
  • Angel Seed
    • Only obtained from a Surprise Pot or Golden Interval treasure chest.
Insert it into a Grass Gainer or Grass Tosser to level up,
or synthesize it onto your main weapon.

Pot

  • Storage Pot
    • The most important pot, which also happens to be the most common.
If you look inside a pot and hear a sound after pressing L, it's a Storage Pot.
It's best to limit yourself to 7~9 Storage Pots so that you have enough
space to keep bracelets and Revival Grass outside of pots.
  • Presto Pot
    • Insert unneeded items or single arrows to turn them into different items.
If you're lucky, you'll obtain items like Scout or Phantasm bracelet.
  • Identify Pot
    • Lets you identify multiple items, making it better than an Identify Scroll.
      Prioritize grasses, bracelets, and staves.
  • Synthesis Pot
    • Being able to synthesize on non-Mixer floors can be nice.
If you find an unidentified pot with a size of 2, it's a Synthesis Pot.
  • Degrade Pot
    • Container for onigiri, Strength Grass, Great Hall Scrolls, etc.
Just don't insert weapons, shields, or staves.
  • Grass Pot
    • Often called useless, but it can weaken an entire Monster House
if you insert Twisty Grass or Poison Grass.
Some insert unneeded equipment to sell later.
  • Water Pot
    • Destroy traps on room entrance tiles, seal Pop Tank monsters,
weaken the attack power of monsters like Shagga and Gale, etc.
Using it to reuse Blank:Sanctuary is so strong, some ban its usage.
  • Upgrade Pot
    • Shop-exclusive, and only found between 71~90F.
The chance for any given shop to have it for sale is extremely low,
so it's safe to say that it's likely the rarest item in the game.
Collect Restock and Blank scrolls using an Armordillo Pop beforehand,
and be aware that not even 20 scrolls can guarantee it to show up.

Misc.

  • Special Onigiri
    • Found in shops, or on the ground between 15~40F and 61~99F.
The ideal effect is the one that lets you identify items by picking them up,
but being able to walk without waking enemies is also nice.
  • Cannonball
    • Dealing a fixed 40 damage is fantastic early on.
Keep them inside a pot to avoid self-destructing from Gazer hypnosis.
Can be used to break wall tiles, similar to a Pickaxe.

Identifying

Most items in this dungeon are found unidentified, so it's important to learn
identification techniques rather than solely relying on Identify Pot and Identify Scroll.
Compare prices, check effects, or narrow it down based on what you've found.
Blank and Escape scrolls, projectiles, and onigiri are always identified.

Weapons & Shields

The item name is already identified, but you won't know if it's cursed until you
either equip it or fully identify it, so it's best to wait to equip it until you find
a Strip Trap or reach a floor where Kengo monsters appear.

You can check for curses or upgrade values by comparing prices in a shop.
It has a positive upgrade value if the selling price is higher than normal,
and it's either cursed or has a negative upgrade value if it's lower.

See the Price Chart page for weapon and shield prices.

Bracelets

Equipping a bracelet won't reveal its name, so an Identify Scroll, Identify Pot,
or Identify Statue must be used to fully identify it.

Some bracelets like Breadcrumb and No Control have strictly negative effects,
and can be extremely troublesome if they happen to be cursed, so don't equip
unidentified bracelets unless you have a way to unequip them if needed.

If you find a Strip Trap, you can safely attempt to identify bracelets.

Staves

Staves can be used to escape tricky situations, so identify them right away.
Swing them at a Lv2 monster from at least 2 tiles away so that you can
differentiate between Unlucky Staff, Quarter Staff, and Pull Staff.
It's best to identify near stairs so you can run away if it's a Happy Staff.

A staff with the [Insert] menu option is either a Grass Tosser or Grass Gainer.
Fully identify these staves before inserting Strength Grass and wasting a use.
It's hard to tell them apart, but Grass Gainer costs a bit more than Grass Tosser,
so you can try to identify it by checking its price. (1680 or more = Grass Gainer)

See the Price Chart page for staff prices.

Scrolls

Shiren 2 doesn't have negative effect scrolls like Grounded or Swift Foe,
so you don't need to read unidentified scrolls while standing on the stairs.
However, you might get surrounded if it happened to be a Great Hall Scroll,
so it's best to read scrolls after you've explored and defeated some monsters.

Wait until 9F to read unidentified scrolls in case it's a Great Hall Scroll
so that you have a chance at discovering Golden Stairs.

If you find a shop, go ahead and read scrolls that aren't in the 2000G price range,
but consider keeping 500G and 1000G scrolls on hand for Monster Houses.
(Possibilities in that price range include Lightning, Blaze, Shadow, and Fear)

Explosion and Sanctuary scrolls stick to the ground when checking prices.
Place a Storage Pot, check its price, and then insert a scroll and subtract the
Pot's price if you want to be safe / don't want to risk wasting a Sanctuary Scroll.

Escape Scrolls are always found in an identified state on 30F, 50F, and 70F.

Grasses

Mr. Drone family monsters only drop the following grasses:
Mr. Drone = Strength Grass, Mr. Helico = Happy Grass, Mr. Gyro = Revival Grass.

Revival Grass activates even if it's unidentified, as long as it's not inside a pot.
However, it remains unidentified after activating.

Twisty Grass, Shrink Seed, and Poison Grass can be found on the ground.
Disaster Seed is shop-exclusive. Unlucky Seed is only from shops or Presto Pots.
So as you can see, the risk of eating a negative effect grass is quite low.
However, the bigger issue is wasting an Herb or Life Grass before synthesizing
a Healing Sword, so it's best to avoid eating unidentified grasses.

Either identify grasses by price, or use an Identify Scroll or Identify Pot.
It's fine to eat a grass to identify it if you find 2 copies of the same grass.

If you reach a Mixer floor without having identified your grass items,
you could still synthesize to see if one is a Healing Sword ingredient.
Throw an unneeded weapon, followed by a grass item you want to identify.
If the synthesis succeeded, check the seal and make note of it,
and if it failed, go ahead and eat the grass to identify it.

Pots

Usually identified by price.
There are only 6 pots that can't be identified after picking them up.

If you don't want to wait for a shop:

  1. Insert an unidentified weapon or shield.
  2. Identify, Presto, or Sticky pots are checked.

After that, if the pot had a size of 5~6, it's either a Degrade or Grass pot.
If you want to get the most out of a potential Synthesis Pot, stop here.

  1. Insert an identified weapon or shield of the same category as earlier.
  2. Synthesis, Degrade, and Grass pots are checked.

Strategy / Tips

This section offers tips for clearing the dungeon consistently.
※ See Restricted Play for speedrunning or high score related strategies.

Retry on 1F for a good start

Put bluntly, the idea of restarting until you get a good seed is a beginner trap,
and should be avoided if you want to level up as a player.

Some players intentionally collapse on 1F until they find a good item like
Leather Shield, Scout Bracelet, Possession Staff, Monster Pot, or Trip Statue,
or until they get lucky with a Pit Mamel leveling up into a Cave Mamel.

However, you might have better luck on 2F, and restarting can get tiring.
Leather Shield is realistic, but Scout Bracelet and Trip Statue are very rare,
and you might go through 100 attempts without seeing a Monster Pot.
Shops and Monster Houses are never generated on 1F as well.

And when you finally find one of your desired items, you can still easily
collapse from a leveled up monster, hidden Summon Trap, etc,
putting you back to the start without having gained much insight.

Take on Monster Houses

Collecting items and leveling up greatly impacts how later floors play out,
so don't ignore Monster Houses, shops, item islands, and Trip Statues.

Monster Houses in particular offer both items and experience points,
so don't skip them unless you have no hope of winning.
(Example: early game Special Monster House)

Shoot arrows from outside the Monster House to thin out enemies,
but don't roll Cannonballs, as they could trigger a Monster or Flood trap.

If you encounter an item island that has grass, staves, or pots,
go ahead and read an Evaporate or Freeze scroll if you have one.
You can also equip a Phantasm Bracelet to avoid consuming items.
If you don't have any of the above, you can still collect some items
by swinging a Knockback Staff or Pull Staff.

If you find a Trip Statue, lure monsters into the room to collect items
until the wind blows, but keep an eye on your remaining fullness.
Unless you have a Balance Staff, place items in a hallway for safety,
and don't forget to check for traps around the statue.

Piko Hammers can destroy statues, and floating enemies won't trip.
Don't try this on floors where Bored Kappas or Water Striders appear,
since they can throw items that are on the ground.

Steal from shops

Consider stealing from a shop if you come across one,
especially if the merchandise includes Scout or Phantasm bracelets.
Sell your items before stealing to obtain a large amount of Gitan.
Having lots of Gitan lets you buy from Traders who are tricky to trip,
and reduces the need to steal a second time.

Read a Great Hall Scroll to safely steal if there's only 1 Shopkeeper.
Use a Pickaxe or Tunnel Staff to create a path to the stairs,
reposition the stairs using Knockback or Pull staves, etc.

In Shiren 2, the Shopkeeper has to be in the shop for Thief Mode to trigger,
so you can swing a Swap Staff or throw Warp Grass at the Shopkeeper.
Asst. Managers who reflect magic replace Shopkeepers from 30F.

If the stairs is very far from a shop, it may be best to shop normally.
Keep items like Spark Sword, Halberd Shield, Scale Shield, Golden Shield,
and Strength Bracelet to sell if you're low on Gitan.

Nigiri Morph Factory

It's difficult to effectively progress through a dungeon without food.
You need to be able to linger on Mixer and Mixermon floors (9~20F)
to make the most of them.

The ideal solution would be to use a Leather Shield to conserve food,
or to synthesize the か seal onto a Disposable Sword.

That said, you can secure food without those items between 9~10F
by having a Nigiri Morph create at least 2~3 Large Onigiri.
Weaken it by throwing Poison Grass or stepping on a Poison Trap,
and then have it turn unneeded items or single arrows into onigiri.
This can be done to increase max fullness to 200% if desired.

The 飯 seal can be synthesized onto a weapon on 9F,
which grants a 4% chance for defeated enemies to drop an Onigiri.
This also reduces the risk of starvation inside Golden Intervals.
If you have both 皮 and 飯 seals, you may even end up with extra onigiri.

Search for Golden Intervals

Items found in Golden Intervals usually outweigh the risk of starvation,
and include Dragon Killer, Dragon Shield, and Storage Pot,
along with Heaven and Earth scrolls to upgrade equipment.

The chance for golden stairs to be generated is 25% between 6~10F,
and 30% between 24~29F, so it's more realistic to aim for the 2nd one,
especially since you likely won't have any Great Hall Scrolls early on.

Think carefully before writing Great Hall on a Blank Scroll.
If you don't land the 30% chance, you'll have wasted an incredibly versatile item
that could've been used to banish Archdragons from the dungeon,
so only attempt it when you have 2~3 Blank Scrolls.

Of course, it's perfectly possible to clear the dungeon without Golden Intervals.
It's best to plan on not being able to enter one, since it's based on luck.
Clearing this dungeon without entering one can be a bragging right, too.

The 3rd Golden Interval is the easiest one to locate, since you'll have had plenty
of time to collect Great Hall Scrolls before reaching such a high floor.
However, by that point you don't really need the items found inside,
so think of it as a place to collect souvenirs to bring home.

Don't hesitate to use items

Don't hesitate to use consumables like arrows, staves, grasses, and scrolls,
since you'll lose all of your items anyway if you end up collapsing.

The most common case of collapsing is being too stingy with items.
If you step on a Summon Trap or start the floor inside a Monster House,
your choice of items to use often ends up being the key to surviving.
Try to envision a few turns into the future before taking an action.

You'll likely obtain more items like Swap Staff, Warp Grass, and Slumber Scroll
if you survive the current situation and progress through a few floors.
The mark of a skilled player is collapsing after exhausting all options.

Level up early game

Strength is important, but Shiren's level is also important early on (~15F).
You'll have a smoother time if you defeat even 1 high level monster.

Snacky, Happy Grass, and Happy or Possession staff can level up a monster,
but don't forget that you also need a way to defeat the high level monster.

Options include Swift Grass, Slow Staff, and Knockback Staff,
along with thrown Gitan, Dragon Grass, Fire Staff, and Quarter Staff.
You can also step on a Poison Trap to reduce the monster's strength to 0,
place an Explosion Scroll on the ground and one-shot the monster,
have a Shopkeeper block an entrance and use Razor Wind, etc.

High Exp Monsters (Early Game)

  • Cave Mamel
    • 5 HP, 500 Exp - Level up a Pit Mamel (1~3F) 1 time.
Snacky spawns on 1F, so this has a high chance of occuring naturally.
Throw Gitan or a shield to one-shot it.
  • Nigiri Master
    • 70 HP, 1600 Exp - Level up a Nigiri Novice (3~5F) 3 times,
or a Nigiri Morph (9~10F) 2 times. Throw any onigiri to one-shot it.
Possession Staff can be used to obtain onigiri.
  • Armordillo Pop
    • 70 HP, 700 Exp - Level up an Armordillo Bro (5~6F) 1 time.
Armordillo Bro will level up if the knockback damage from tackling
Shiren ends up defeating a different monster.
  • Cranky Tank
    • 95 HP, 2300 Exp - Level up a Bow Boy (5~7F) 3 times,
Boy Cart (7~9F) 2 times, or Pop Tank (13~15F) 1 time.
Splash water from a Water Pot to seal it.
  • Hyper Gazer
    • 100 HP, 2000 Exp - Level up a Gazer (6~8F) 2 times.
Its hypnosis is scary, so use an item like Slow Staff for safety.
  • King Shotfish
    • 75 HP, 1800 Exp - Level up a Shotfish (7~8F) 2 times.
It can't act outside of water, but requires an Evaporate Scroll.
  • Stun Scorpion
    • 125 HP, 4900 Exp - Level up a Scorpion (8F) 2 times.
One of the highest exp monsters in the game,
but it also has top tier attack power, so be careful.
  • Mixergon
    • 121 HP, 2500 Exp - Level up a Mixer (9~15F) 2 times,
or Mixermon (12~20F) 1 time. Its HP and attack power
increase when it eats items, so be prepared.
  • Shihan
    • 125 HP, 2250 Exp - Level up a Kengo (11~12F) 2 times.
Possession Staff can be used to collect equipment.
  • Gazelle Pope
    • 87 HP, 2200 Exp - Level up a Goat Pastor (11~13F) 1 time.
Good target if a Mr. Helico drops a Happy Grass on 10F.

Monster Pot Options

Armordillo Pop

By far the best monster to capture to add consistency to the run.
Use it to trip enemies you encounter to collect a ridiculous number of items.
It doesn't have particularly high stats, so don't let it roam around.

Monster Pots are incredibly rare early on, but have a x8 higher rate
between 30~59F, and Armordillo Pop appears between 30~39F.

If you find a Monster Pot after 39F, go ahead and capture something else.
Water Shinryu, Shihan, Monsoon Doll, and Hyper Gazer are all good options.
Trickster Mask appears from 47F, so swing a Seal Staff beforehand.

Shihan

Use it to collect weapons, shields, and bracelets.
Higher chance of obtaining Scout Bracelets compared to Armordillo Pop,
along with Razor Wind, Spark Sword, Walrus Shield, Pierce Bracelet, etc.

It can also be used to collect equipment with positive upgrade values,
which can be synthesized on Mixer floors to strengthen your main equipment.
Possession Staff can be used on a Straw Voodoll monster to remove curses,
and you can also take control of an ally Shihan to have it disarm Shiren's
equipment if you accidentally equipped a cursed item.

You're unlikely to obtain a Monster Pot early game, and if you do find one,
you should capture an Armordillo Pop instead, so usually players end up
capturing Shihan between 43~55F where Iai appears.

If you already have 1~2 Scout Bracelets and Plating Scrolls to repair them,
go ahead and capture a different monster if you want.

Lastly, if you're aiming for a Basilisk Shield from the 3rd Golden Interval,
it's best to have either Armordillo Pop or Shihan with you.

Other Monsters

  • Mixergon
    • Freely synthesize items, but you need a way to make it trip.
Pierce Bracelet + Cannonball on top of a Trip Stone,
Dragon Tile Bracelet on top of a Trip Stone,
      Armordillo tackles, Balance Staff, etc.
  • Monsoon Doll
    • 185 HP and 145 attack at max growth, and can seal monsters.
Shuts down Cranky Tank, Lashagga, Typhoon, etc.
  • Water Shinryu
    • 150 HP and 150 attack, and can inflict freeze with its icy breath.
It can't move on land, so there's no risk of it wandering away.
  • Hyper Gazer
    • Shuts down special attacks and direct attacks by confusing targets.
115 HP and 93 attack, so it's not as strong as Monsoon Doll.
  • Venom Sluggy
    • 145 HP and 85 attack, and drastically lowers a target's attack power.
  • Tiny Phoenix
    • Restores Shiren's HP, though it's not always guaranteed to use it.
  • Stun Scorpion
    • High offensive capabilities like Water Shinryu.
  • Escargon, Megataur
    • If you haven't registered them to Monster Kingdom yet.

Caution

Some monsters and traps can cause you to lose your Monster Pots,
including Nigiri Morph, Gyairas, Gyandora, Trip Stone, Armordillo monsters.
Extinction Scroll's effect applies to ally monsters as well.

Tiger Tosser can throw an ally monster into a Pitfall or onto a landmine,
Bomber Statue can one-shot ally monsters, Gazelle Pope halves levels, etc.
(Ally monster level returns to normal when it returns to its pot)

It's best to stay put while ally monsters are outside of their pots in general,
since you'll lose them if you descend without returning them to their pot,
or if you fall into a Pitfall while they're outside of their pot.

Ally Monster Stats

The following table lists ally monster stats, location, and characteristics.
1~29F and 70F+ are skipped, since the chance to obtain a Monster Pot is abysmal.

Floor Guide

Early game is often considered the most difficult part of this dungeon.
Monsters generally hit hard, and hunger is an issue until you reach 9F
and perform Nigiri Morph Factory.

Things usually calm down a bit around 30F, but don't let your guard down.

Floor Guide Summary:

FloorsNotes
1~8FCheck every room for items.
Descend if Snacky creates too strong of a monster.
If the last room is far, maybe skip it to conserve fullness.
9~20FLinger after checking rooms to collect items and level up.
Perform Nigiri Morph Factory between 9~10F.
Mixers from 9F, and Mixermons from 12F.
22~29FRecommended to rush stairs.
Strong monsters like Monarch Tusker, Sky Dragon.
Read Great Hall Scrolls while standing on the stairs
between 24~29F in hopes of revealing Golden Stairs.
30~39FIt's fine to check rooms on these floors.
Mixermons return, and Monster Pots are more common.
Capture an Armordillo Pop if you find a Monster Pot.
If there's an Archdragon, hurry to the stairs.
40~49FIt's fine to rush stairs on these floors.
Iai, Nigiri Master, and Escargon can be troublesome.
Capture Shihan or Water Shinryu if you find a Monster Pot.
50~59FIt's fine to rush stairs on these floors.
More troublesome monsters like Monsoon Doll, Cranky Tank.
Hunt Mr. Gyro for 2~3 Revival Grass if possible.
60~69FRecommended to rush stairs.
Porko and Porkon's stones are annoying.
It's fine to visit a shop if you see one from this point on.
70~79FRecommended to rush stairs.
Power monsters like Lashagga, Shihan, Boulder Beast.
80~89FRecommended to rush stairs.
Top tier threats like Typhoon and Megataur appear.
90~99FRecommended to rush stairs.
Check for Golden Stairs between 90~95F if you want.

1-4F

Basics

Explore the entire floor and pick up any items on the ground until 20F.
Dead ends and hallways have patterns, so make an effort to recognize them.
Fewer steps means you deplete less fullness, and won't step on as many traps.
There's no need to check hallways, so if you think there aren't any unvisited
rooms left, go ahead and descend to the next floor.

The first big challenge to overcome is the lack of food early on.
If you're lucky enough to find onigiri on the ground, start checking for traps
so that a Flood Trap or Spoil Trap doesn't turn them into Spoiled Onigiri.
Insert onigiri into Storage, Degrade, or Grass pots to keep them safe.

Shiren's level has a large impact on max HP and attack power early on.
When in doubt, go with "floor number + 2" before descending.
(Example: 3F = Lv5 Shiren before proceeding to 4F)

That said, the above formula doesn't have to be followed at all times.
Hunting a high level monster gives you a head start, falling into a Pitfall
cuts your grind short, or maybe you're low on food and can't linger, etc.

However, you should at least reach Lv3 before going to 2F, since otherwise
it can take 3 hits to defeat Yamikichi and Ashigarudon without equipment.
Players usually collapse from enemy attacks more than hunger at this point,
so only go to 2F at Lv2 if you either found a strong weapon (Katana, Dotanuki),
or a Chintala leveled up into a Mid Chintala and you have no way to defeat it.

Shops, Traders, and Monster Houses can be generated on the following floors:

FeatureFloors
Shop2~90F
Trader4~83F
Monster House2~6F, 11~99F
S.Monster House12~78F (Higher chance every 4 floors)

Monsters

Snacky (1~20F), Mamel (1~2F), Chintala (1~2F), Pit Mamel (1~3F),
Ashigarudon (2~4F), Yamikichi (2~4F), Sluggy (3~5F), Piko Hammer (4~6F), etc.

Most enemies only use direct attacks, but Shiren has low HP so it's easy to collapse.
Pit Mamels are always generated awake, and deal up to 4 damage without a shield,
so don't dash in rooms, and don't enter hallways when your HP is 8 or less.

Snacky has a high chance of spawning on 1F due to the smaller monster table,
which can result in a Mid Chintala or Cave Mamel being created.
It's best to hurry to the stairs if a strong monster with low exp like
Mid Chintala, Samuraidon, Warukichi, or Nigiri Morph is created.

However, if a Cave Mamel is created, try to defeat it to gain 500 exp.
Cave Mamels have very high attack and defense, but only 5 HP, so you can
easily defeat it by throwing Gitan or a shield, swinging a Knockback Staff, etc.
Defeating one levels you up to Lv8~9 or so, making early game much easier.

Avoid picking up Gitan between 1~3F, since it can be used as a projectile
to one-shot a Cave Mamel provided the bag is worth 50G or more,
or thrown at other leveled up enemies like Mid Chintala or Samuraidon.

Sluggy can lower your strength, so use projectiles or staves from a distance.
Antidote Grass is rarely identified this early, so it might be a while before
you get a chance to restore lost strength.

Even experienced players can collapse from unwinnable situations on 1~4F,
such as not having an item to deal with a leveled up monster, or stepping
on a Summon Trap without an escape item, and so on.

So all said, don't get down if you need to retry a few times.
Think of it as part of the flavor of the dungeon - later games in the series
evened out this type of randomness, so it's a unique part of the experience.

Cave Mamel Hunting

Level up a Pit Mamel into a Cave Mamel between 1~3F for experience points.

Level up methods:

  • If you find a Snacky, try to ensure a Pit Mamel defeats it.
  • Swing a Happy Staff at a Pit Mamel.
  • Have a Pit Mamel defeat a monster using a Knockback Statue.

S:Shiren P:Pit Mamel
□□□
PSP Shiren will fly at a Pit Mamel every time he's hit,
□□□ causing one of them to defeat the other and level up.

Defeating Cave Mamel:

  • Use staves.
    • Knockback, Fire, and Tunnel can one-shot it.
    • Slow, Miss, and Possession are also very safe.
  • Throw 50 or more Gitan.
    • Insert Gitan if you find a Storage Pot.
    • Prepare multiple bags if you find a Gitan Statue.
  • Throw a shield that has 5 or more defense.
    • Something like Tribal Shield is ideal.
    • Don't throw main shield options like Leather or Ivory.
  • Roll a Cannonball to deal 40 damage.
    • Roll it from a distance so you don't blow yourself up.
    • It's best to roll it at a wall so it doesn't miss.
  • Use a direct attack if there's a 10 Damage Statue.
    • You can survive 1 hit if you miss.
  • Use a direct attack if there's a Knockback Statue.
    • You'll collapse if you miss.
  • Use scrolls.
    • Place a scroll down to see if it's Sanctuary or Explosion first.
    • Lure it adjacent to you for the possibility of Fear Scroll.
  • Eat or throw grass.
    • Eat for the possibility of Swift Grass or Talk Seed.
    • Throw if you're worried about Poison Grass.
  • Shoot 5 arrows or throw 5 items that only deal 1 damage.
    • It's rare to find 5 items, and also very wasteful.
  • Throw a Storage Pot with enough items inside to deal 5 damage.
    • Even more wasteful than throwing 5 items.
  • Use traps.
    • Poison Trap reduces its strength to 0, but might one-shot it. (No exp)
    • Landmines can be used if you're cornered. (No exp)
  • Use an Explosion or Bomber statue. (No exp)

Identifying Items

See Identifying for a more in-depth guide.

Weapons, Shields:

It's fine to equip the first weapon and shield you find.
They could be cursed, but Strip Traps are common, and Mixers don't appear until 9F.
However, don't equip weak or troublesome items like Club and Heavy Shield.
Pickaxes are fine to equip, since you can break them by digging if needed.

Stop equipping new weapons and shields if you find main equipment options
such as Dotanuki or Leather Shield, since it introduces unnecessary risk.
Keep an extra weapon to use as a base for a Healing Sword.

Bracelets:

It's fine to equip bracelets right away to check for Scout Bracelet.
Cursed Pierce or Breadcrumb bracelets can be annoying without a Purify Scroll,
but you can have a weak monster repeatedly hit you to shatter the bracelet.
Use a Poison Trap, or splash water on a monster that has a weapon.

Scrolls:

Read scrolls if your inventory is full, but it's best to save them for a shop.
Place scrolls outside the shop to check for Explosion Scroll first.
Save scrolls until 9~10F if you want to try for the 1st Golden Interval,
but it's not worth discarding more important items to carry scrolls.

Grasses:

Don't eat unidentified grasses, unless you find 2 copies (likely Otogiriso).
Check prices in a shop, or use an Identify Scroll or Identify Pot.
You don't want to waste Herb, Life Grass, Revival Grass, or Boost Grass.
Store unidentified grasses in a Degrade Pot if your inventory is full,
and save 500G grasses until 9F in case it's Sight Grass.

Pots:

First, select [Insert] and cancel to check for Water Pot.
Then select [Peek] and press L - if you hear a sound, it's a Storage Pot.
If it turns out to be a Storage Pot, insert any onigiri you have right away.
After that, it's fine to insert items to check for Identify Pot,
but understand the risk that it could be a Sticky Pot.

5-8F

Armordillo (5~6F), Armordillo Bro (5~6F), Gazer (6~8F), Mr. Drone (7~9F),
Spearfish (5~8F), Lt. Spearfish (6~8F), Capt. Spearfish (8F), Scorpion (8F), etc.

Waterways are common between 5~8F, and monster abilities become more varied.
Armordillos can make you trip and drop items into waterways, and Spearfish
can move and heal HP while they're underwater.

If you found any arrows, shoot them at Gazers to avoid being hypnotized.
Mr. Drone always drops Strength Grass, so do everything possible to hunt them.
Keep 1 Strength Grass on hand for Grass Gainer or Grass Tosser.
It's fine to eat any extras if you're out of inventory space.

Golden Stairs have a 25% chance to be hidden in a wall tile between 6~10F,
so this floor range is a good time to read unidentified scrolls.
However, you'll return to 11F after the Golden Interval, so if you go too early
you'll miss out on Nigiri Morphs for food and 2 floors of Mixer spawns.
It's easy to collapse from starvation inside since Onigiri can't be found,
so it's best to wait until 9~10F to read unidentified scrolls.

If you have a Possession Staff or Monster Pot, level up an Armordillo Bro
between 5~6F and use its special attack to make enemies trip and drop items.

If you're out of onigiri, go to 9F instead of leveling up or collecting items.
Nigiri Morphs appear between 9~10F, so you can restock Large Onigiri.

Collecting Arrows

Arrow and Iron Arrow traps can be found between 5~10F.
This is the only floor range where arrow traps appear, excluding Golden Intervals.
If you find one that's in a bad spot, use a Knockback or Pull staff to reposition it.

Boy Carts (7~9F) can also be used to collect Iron Arrows, and you can
level down a Pop Tank (13~15F) using Unlucky Staff or Twisty Grass.

Methods:

  • Possession Staff
    • Take control of a Boy Cart and use its special attack while facing a wall.
  • Great Hall Scroll
    • Keep a distance of at least 10 tiles between Shiren and a Boy Cart.
    • Knockback and Swap staves can be used to quickly gain distance.
  • Terrain

9-12F

Nigiri Morph (9~10F), Mixer (9~15F), Mixermon (12~20F), Boy Cart (7~9F),
Mr. Helico (10F), Taishodon (10~12F), Kengo (11~12F), etc.

The first major grinding area of this dungeon.
How you utilize these monsters plays a large role in the outcome of your run.

Mixer

If you see a Mixer, synthesize 皮 (shield) and 飯 (weapon) first to avoid starving.
After those two, go with 弟 (shield) to help against Water Striders and Gales,
ド (weapon) to deal more damage to Twisty Hanis and Demon Scorpions, etc.
If you identified Herb and Life Grass, work on creating a Healing Sword by
synthesizing 薬, 弟, and 命 onto a spare weapon.

Mixer's HP and attack power increase every time it eats an item,
so use items like Knockback Staff or Quarter Staff to fight with an advantage.
Mixers can't eat poison arrows, so you can also step on a Poison Trap.

Nigiri Morph

Nigiri Morph is needed to perform a technique called Nigiri Morph Factory.
The idea is to intentionally let a Nigiri Morph turn items into Large Onigiri.

Steps:

  1. Check for traps in a room using direct attacks.
  2. Place any items you want to keep on the ground.
  3. Shoot single arrows at a wall to cover the ground with arrows.
  4. Step in place until a Nigiri Morph arrives.
  5. Hold B and step onto an arrow, and [Swap] it with an inventory item.
  6. Let the Nigiri Morph turn the single arrow into a Large Onigiri.
  7. [Swap] the Large Onigiri with another single arrow, repeat until satisfied.

※ It helps to weaken the Nigiri Morph with a Poison Trap, Poison Grass, etc.

Aim for 1~2 onigiri at a time if you don't have a way to weaken the Nigiri Morph,
and don't let your HP get so low that another enemy entering could end your run.
Eat Sight Grass to save time and have a better chance at finding a Poison Trap,
which can be used to instantly decrease a monster's strength to 0.

Sanctuary Scroll, Miss Staff, Evasive Shield, and Poison Grass are also nice
options to reduce damage if you're unable to locate a Poison Trap.
Slow Staff and Otogiriso aren't ideal, but they can be used as well.

If there's a Trader or you're starving and don't have time to place items
and run into a Nigiri Morph, place the most important item under your feet
and have it turn one of the other items in your inventory into an onigiri.
Losing 1 item isn't as bad as collapsing from starvation.

Other Monsters

If you have one, read a Great Hall Scroll on 9F before descending.
Even if you don't find Golden Stairs, this lets you collect arrows from Boy Cart.
It's also possible to use a Possession Staff + Cranky Tank to search,
but it's usually not worth the effort.

Straw Voodolls (9~10F) curse equipped shields, making synthesis difficult.
A Holy Shield or 祓 (shield) seal from a Purify Scroll blocks curses.
Otherwise, simply unequip your shield before fighting Straw Voodolls.
Kengo can disarm a cursed shield between 11~12F if needed.

Monsters hit harder from 10F with the addition of Ironhead and Golem,
so don't let your guard down if you haven't strengthened your equipment.

Mr. Helico (10F) has a chance to drop Happy Grass when defeated.
If you obtain one, throw it at another Mr. Helico for a chance at Revival Grass.
Remember to assign a name to the Happy Grass before throwing it.

Taishodon (10~12F) reflects magic, so you can use Strength Grass +
Boost Grass + Grass Tosser to rapidly increase your max strength.
It's okay to skip the Boost Grass if you haven't identified it yet, and it's not
recommended, but Happy Grass can be used instead of Strength if desired.

Kengo (11~12F) can fling your equipped shield away, sending it behind you.
Fight with your back against a wall, or unequip your shield beforehand.
If you have a Possession Staff, level up a Kengo into an Iai or Shihan
and take control of it to collect weapons, shields, and bracelets.

If you find a Monster House, try to clear it out for items.
However, Special Monster Houses can appear starting on 12F,
so avoid Power Houses (Porkon) and Ghost Houses (Typhoon)
if you're not confident.

13-15F

Mixer (9~15F), Mixermon (12~20F), Goat Pastor and Shagga (11~13F),
Bone Dragon (13~14F), Pop Tank, Wolf Droid, and Water Strider (13~15F),
Bored Kappa and Twisty Hani (14~19F), Schubell (15~24F), etc.

Multiple monsters with ranged attacks appear, so stay alert even in rooms.
Pop Tank and Wolf Droid can level up by defeating enemies adjacent to you,
and you'll need to hurry to claim items before Water Strider and Bored Kappa.

Water Striders act at double speed, so you may have a rough time
if your shield doesn't have high upgrade value or any 弟 seals.
They can potentially one-shot you by throwing Gitan if you're underleveled,
so don't wait to use items like Seal Staff, Shadow Scroll, or Slumber Scroll.
Swap Staff is an option against a Bored Kappa standing on an item.

Water Pot can be used to seal a Cranky Tank, turning it into an easy 2300 exp.
(Unlike Shiren 1, Cranky Tanks have weak direct attacks in Shiren 2)
Throw Gitan or use other items if needed - don't run away from Cranky Tanks.
Gorilla Bot and Bear Borg have high stats, so sealing them is ineffective.
Use an Unlucky Staff or run away if a Wolf Droid levels up.

Twisty Hanis provide 300 exp and have a 35% item drop rate,
but have 50 HP and 30 defense, making them tough to defeat quickly.
Its special attack decreases Shiren's level by 1, so defeat it from a distance,
equip a Level Lock Bracelet, swing a Seal Staff, use a Drain Buster, etc.

Mixers and Mixermon appear at the same time between 12~15F.
Higher item drop rate monsters include Shagga (16%), Goat Pastor (16%),
Bored Kappa (25%), and Bone Dragon (32%), so use onigiri you obtained
earlier when you performed Nigiri Morph Factory to hunt these monsters,
and synthesize using Mixers if you obtain a noteworthy item.

Monster Houses are dangerous between 13~15F since Pop Tanks
can level up, Twisty Hanis wake up, Water Striders throw items, etc.
Proceed carefully if you decide to take one on.

16-21F

Whirlwind and Stormy Doll (16~18F), Gyadon (17~18F), Chainhead (17~19F),
Rock Beast (18~21F), Tiger Hurler and Patient Bag (19~21F), Nigiri Boss (20~22F), etc.

Stormy Doll rusts your equipped weapon or shield, and is tough to defeat in 1 hit.
It's a non-issue if you're using Ivory Sword, Ivory Shield, or Leather Shield,
but otherwise consider unequipping your weapon and shield before fighting it.

Gyadon plucks staves from your inventory and lowers the number of uses by 1,
so keep important staves inside pots. (Staves with 0 uses like Balance Staff are fine)
It only has 40 HP, so you can likely defeat it in 1 hit if you've increased strength.

Chainhead can level up by defeating a monster standing between Shiren and itself.
Gigahead has a ridiculous 120 attack, so be careful where you stand.
Chainhead can drop an Ironhead's Head, which is a nice secondary weapon.

Rock Beast's body slam deals knockback and paralyzes Shiren for 3 turns.
Tiger Hurler can throw Shiren onto hidden traps and into Monster Houses,
so shoot arrows from a distance or seal it.

Patient Bag (120 HP) stops moving at 30 HP or less, and explodes at 10 HP or less.
The explosion is equivalent to a Big Landmine, so use arrows and punches
to manage its HP to prevent it from exploding, or seal it with a Water Pot.

Nigiri Boss turns Shiren into an onigiri, reducing his defense to 0.
It's extremely dangerous if your HP is low, or if there are other monsters nearby.
Use Seal Staff, Shadow Scroll, Slumber Scroll, or Warp Grass if needed.
If you have an Unlucky Staff or Twisty Grass, you can restock Large Onigiri.

Snacky continues to appear until 20F, and can be problematic on these floors.
16F is particularly risky since the monster table is smaller, resulting in a higher
chance of a Monsoon Doll or Kamikaze being created.
Porko and Boulder Beast can quickly end a run if you meet them in a hallway,
so it's best to wait for them in a room if you don't have a Scout Bracelet.

Mixermons can't be found between 21~25F, so synthesize before proceeding.
Shiren's level doesn't matter as much as seals and strength from this point on.
For seals, ド, 目, 仏, (weapon), and 弟, バ, 火 (shield) all help between 22~29F.
However, save at least 1 Otogiriso and Slumber Scroll for emergencies.

Twisty Hani Hunting

Technique used to hunt Twisty Hanis (300 exp, 35% item drop rate) using a Schubell.
There's no need to perform it in a normal run, but it can be useful in restricted play.

Necessary Items:

  • Razor Wind or a weapon with the 三 seal.
  • Poison Trap to reduce Schubell's strength to 0.
  • Pickaxe or Cannonballs to break a few wall tiles.

Hit Schubell with a Poison Trap between 15~19F, and lure it into a dead end room.
Then dig out terrain like the diagram below, and defeat summoned monsters.
It's best to do this between 16~18F where there are fewer dangerous enemies.

■■■■■■■■■
■■■□□□□□■ S:Shiren
■■◇□□□□□■ B:Schubell
□SB□□□□□■ ◇:Dig this wall
■■■□□□□□■
■■■■■■■■■

Dangerous Monsters:

  • 14~15F - Water Strider (Throws items)
  • 14~19F - Bored Kappa (Throws items)
  • 17~19F - Bat Kangaroo (Speeds up Schubell)
  • 17~19F - Porky (Throws stones)
  • 19F - Tiger Tosser (Throws Schubell)
  • 19F - Patient Bag (Schubell and items are lost if it explodes)

22-29F

Copycat Mask (22~23F), Monarch Tusker (22~26F), Dragon (22~28F),
Demon Scorpion (22~29F), Sky Dragon (25~30F), Super Gazer (25~31F),
Bomber Ninja (25~32F), Tonosamadon (25~35F), Stone Golem (25~35F),
Skull Dragon (26~33F), etc.

This is said to be among the most difficult floor ranges in this dungeon.
Many monsters use direct attacks, so 弟, バ, 眠 (shield) seals have a chance to shine.

If you collapse in this floor range, it usually means you needed to use Mixers
to increase upgrade value and synthesize more seals - don't chalk it up to bad luck.
Luck becomes less of a factor the deeper you go, so reflect on what went wrong.

Some examples:

  • Tried to save a Fear Scroll for later, but ended up collapsing.
  • Attempted to steal when the stairs was far away.
  • Didn't perform Nigiri Morph Factory between 9~10F and ran out of food.
  • Didn't synthesize because you couldn't find ideal synthesis items.
  • Took unnecessary steps and stepped on a Sleep Trap.

Monsters (22-24F)

Dragons have 80 HP and high attack, so keep an eye on your HP while fighting.
If your weapon is weak or your strength is low, it can take 3~4 hits to defeat one.
That said, Dragons provide 350 exp and a 60% item drop rate,
so you could make an effort to hunt them.

Monarch Tusker swings a Slow Staff, and inflicts paralysis if already slowed.
You won't be able to act for 3 turns if you become paralyzed, and there's risk
of being slowed while paralyzed, stun locking you until you collapse.
Don't hesitate to use items if you don't have the 山 seal to reflect its magic.

Demon Scorpion can also slow you down, but it can't inflict paralysis.
It's still dangerous if another monster approaches while you're slowed,
so try to defeat it before it has a chance to sting you.
If your weapon has the ド seal, you'll deal more damage to it.

Move diagonally inside a room if the map shows a red dot out of view,
or else you risk getting hit by Dragon's fire or Monarch Tusker's staff.
22~23F has Copycat Masks so it's a bit easier than 24~29F,
but it's still recommended to rush stairs.

Monsters (25-29F)

Monster stats quickly ramp up from this point.
Super Gazer's hypnosis is scary, but so is Sky Dragon's homing fire and high attack.
Even basic monsters like Skull Dragon and Stone Golem hit hard.
If you're being chased by multiple enemies, you could step on a Big Landmine
placed by Bomber Ninja to wipe them out and eat Otogiriso afterward.

Tonosamadon can reflect projectiles, so don't shoot arrows at it.
If you've increased your strength, you might end up dealing 100 or more
damage to yourself from a reflected arrow, so it's best not to shoot arrows
at enemies outside of your view between 25~35F.

Mixermon returns between 26~40F, so synthesize if needed.
The 目 seal is a higher priority, since both Super Gazer and Stone Golem appear.
Aim to have 4~5 seals on both your weapon and shield by 40F, but leave 1 slot
open if you haven't obtained 三 or 回 (weapon) and 山 or 見 (shield).

2nd Golden Interval

Golden Stairs have a 30% chance to be hidden in a wall tile between 24~29F,
so read a Great Hall Scroll after you've defeated some enemies.
Be sure to read the scroll while standing on the stairs to avoid being
caught in the middle of the room with Sky Dragons or Monarch Tuskers,
and use Swift Grass or Swap Staff to quickly get to the Golden Stairs.

If you're struggling, read the scroll on 24F in hopes of skipping 25~29F,
but if you're doing fine, read it between 26~29F after synthesizing.
If you're aiming for this Golden Interval, keep 1 Synthesis Pot on hand so you
can switch your main equipment to a Dragon Killer / Dragon Shield right away.

Be warned that Lashagga appears from 3F inside this Golden Interval.
It's an out of depth monster (normally found on 70F+), so use your items.

30-39F

Monsters

Armorillo Pop (30~39F), Orcan (30~43F), Kappa Pest (30~49F),
Gyairas (30~49F), Archdragon (30~59F), Adm. Spearfish (30~59F),
Rancor Sluggy (32~40F), Nashagga (35~43F), etc.

Archdragon is often generated asleep and rarely spawns, but it breathes fire
(35 damage) from anywhere on the floor, and can hit you even inside a wall.
A shield with 竜, 火, and multiple 弟 seals greatly reduces fire damage,
and the fastest way to deal with it is to throw an Extinction Scroll at it.

Rancor Sluggy lowers max strength by 2 and occasionally divides when it
receives damage, causing a fresh Rancor Sluggy to be generated.
The remainder of the dungeon will be a struggle if you lose strength here,
so equip a Scout or Salty bracelet, or use an item like Seal Staff.

Waterways are generated more frequently from this point on.
Armordillo Pop appears, so be careful if you don't have a Balance Staff.
If you also lack a Scout Bracelet, shoot arrows to check for enemies.
Consider cutting the exploration short and descending if you're worried.

Orcans behave like Spearfish, and can restore HP while underwater.
However, it uses a jumping attack that deals x2 damage when it's underwater,
so avoid walking through hallways surrounded by water when your HP is low.
Use arrows to defeat it when it tries to run away to heal.

Preparing for Late Game

Monster stats are generally calmer than 22~29F, and Mixermon appears,
so take some time to collect items, synthesize equipment, and level up.
You can get by with 回 and 三 seals, so it's a good idea to linger until
the wind blows if you have the means to keep hunger at bay.

The monster table between 31~39F swaps out a monster on each floor,
so enemies gradually get stronger the further you progress.

Monster Pots are far more common between 30~59F than other ranges,
so capture an Armorillo Pop if you're lucky enough to find a pot.
You can also use a Possession Staff on an Armordillo Pop
to increase your chances of obtaining a Monster Pot.

Shopkeepers are replaced with Asst. Managers starting on 30F.
Asst. Managers reflect magic, so keep that in mind if you plan on stealing.
Use this to your advantage by inserting Strength Grass into a Grass Tosser
and swinging it at an Asst. Manager to increase your strength.

40-49F

Pumpanshee (37~45F), Venom Sluggy (39~47F), Nailed Voodoll (40~49F),
Escargon (40~80F), Iai (43~55F), Nigiri Master (45~57F), etc.

Pumpanshee can attack inside walls, so be careful about Phantasm Bracelet usage.

Venom Sluggy lowers max strength by 3, and can divide like Rancor Sluggy.
Be extra careful between 39~40F, as both Rancor Sluggy and Venom Sluggy appear.

Nailed Voodoll curses all of your equipped items at once.
Weapons and shields can be protected by filling their synthesis slots,
but bracelets can only be protected by synthesizing a 祓 (shield) seal.
Save a Purify Scroll to remove curses from Scout and Phantasm bracelets,
or use a Possession Staff on a Nailed Voodoll to do the same.

Escargon warps from elsewhere and reflects magic bullets from staves,
so it's best to swing staves like Slow or Seal when the target is adjacent to you.
You can take advantage of its reflection to increase strength or turn invisible.

Nigiri Master can turn both you and your items into onigiri,
so either shoot arrows from a distance or use a Seal Staff.
If you have extra onigiri, throw one at it to one-shot it.

Iai can disarm your weapon or shield, so fight with your back against a wall.
It has high attack and defense, so you're unlikely to defeat it in 1 hit.
If you step on a Summon Trap and get surrounded by 4 Iais,
either eat Warp Grass or read a Fear Scroll.

If you still haven't found a Scout Bracelet, level up an Iai into a Shihan
and use a Possession Staff or Monster Pot to collect items.

50-59F

The High-risk, high-reward zone of this dungeon.
How the remainder of the run goes usually comes down to whether or not
you obtain Revival Grass from Mr. Gyros and avoid costly accidents here.

Monsters

New threats include Monsoon Doll (49~59F), Gyandora (50~80F),
Tiger Chucker (51~95F), Cranky Tank (55~77F), etc.

Monsoon Doll can erase a synthesis seal with its special attack.
Losing seals like 三 or 山 can be devastating, so use projectiles or Seal Staff.
They always erase a red 金 seal before others if present,
but a blue 金 has the same odds as other seals.

Gyandora plucks equipment or pots and erases a seal or shrinks the pot.
This monster is the reason why a ト seal on your shield is essential.
If you don't have that seal, don't dash even with a Scout Bracelet.

Tiger Chucker throws you into Monster Houses, onto traps, or at other monsters.
Don't underestimate it, since you could land on a Sleep Trap.

Cranky Tank only deals 20 damage per cannoball in Shiren 2, but it spawns often
and bracelets crack more easily from explosions, so it's still annoying.
(However, explosions will never cause a bracelet to shatter)
Consider throwing an Extinction Scroll at it.

Despite the scary lineup of monsters, this floor range offers some of the best
opportunities to collect items and strengthen Shiren.

Mixergon (50~80F) appears, allowing you to synthesize items again.
Mixergons that have eaten 4 items have incredible attack power,
so use items like Slow, Miss, or Quarter staves to weaken it.

Copycat Mask monsters can be disguised as a Mixergon, so shoot an arrow
or swing a Knowledge Staff before throwing your main equipment.

Mr. Gyro (50~60F) has a 75% chance to drop Revival Grass when defeated.
Revival Grass can't be found on the ground starting from 51F,
so try to obtain 2~3 of them before leaving this floor range.

Menbell overlaps with Mr. Gyro between 53~60F,
so it's possible to lower its level to hunt Mr. Drones for Strength grass.

Mr. Drone Hunting

Level down a Menbell, and then hunt Mr. Drones it summons for Strength Grass.
You'll ideally want 30~50 strength for the final part of this dungeon,
depending on your weapon's strength.

Necessary Items:

  • Twisty Grass or Unlucky Staff
  • Shield with 弟 seals to take 0 damage from Schubell's attacks.

S:Shiren B:Schubell ×:Monster Summon Spot
■□□□□□
■××□□□ Shiren can defeat summoned monsters
■BS□□□ in 1 turn in this location.
■××□□□
■□□□□□

Be careful of the following:

  • Kengo - It's best to do this on 56~60F where Iai doesn't appear.
  • Straw Voodoll - Curses your equipment.
  • Tiger Tosser - Throws you onto visible traps.

60-69F

Projectile zone where Silver Arrows, Stones, and Bombs fly from any direction.

Menbell (53~70F), Bellthoven (60~75F), Porko (56~71F), Porkon (60~72F),
Horse Shogun (57~73F), Horse Emperor (60~77F), Gorilla Bot (60~74F),
Bear Borg (60~76F), etc.

Archdragons finally go away at 60F, but Porko and Porkon now appear.
Their stone toss hits harder than Archdragon's fire if your shield is weak,
so use Phantasm Bracelet and Tunnel Staff to take them out quickly.
(They won't throw stones while you're inside a wall)

Beware of Hyper Gazer (63~90F) if you don't have the 山 seal,
as its hypnosis could force you to eat valuable Revival Grass.

Iai, Nigiri Master, and Monsoon Doll go away, so there's less risk of item loss.
However, Hyper Gazer, Gyandora, and Tiger Chucker are still around,
so don't only focus on Porko and Porkon, or else you'll be hypnotized,
tossed across the map, or your equipment will get ruined by Gyandora.

70-85F

Lashagga (70~87F), Shihan (74~90F), Boulder Beast (75~89F),
Minotaur (78~85F), N'dubba 60yr (80~94F), etc.

Lashagga attacks 3 times per turn, dealing significant damage
and quickly shattering bracelets - use a Water Pot to reduce its attack power.
Lashagga and Typhoon have the same attack stat and attack 3 times per turn,
so fighting Lashagga gives you an idea how you'll fare against Typhoon.

Your run is likely over if you lose your weapon or shield due to a Shihan,
so use Seal or Slow staves, Phantasm Bracelet, or other items to stay safe.
Read Evaporate, Freeze, or Great Hall scrolls if your equipment falls in water.
Consider throwing an Extiction Scroll at Shihan if you have one on hand.
If you don't have any of these items, it's recommended to rush to the stairs.

Boulder Beast's body slam deals knockback and 3 turns of paralysis.
Diagonal knockback won't break walls, leaving you paralyzed in the open.
Avoid fighting it inside shops so that you don't accidentally steal.

The classic power type monster Minotaur also appears.
It has a 25% chance to deal a x1.4 damage brutal hit, and is weak to water.
Mixergon is around until 80F, so you can synthesize a Minotaur's Axe if you're
lucky enough to get the drop (10% chance), increasing your damage output.
That said, it's not worth the trouble of using Synthesis Pot, Blank Scroll,
and Purify Scroll if you already have enough strength and staves.

N'dubba 60yr acts at double speed and hits as hard as Gigahead
or Megataur when both hits connect, so it may be best to assume all items
on the ground are N'dubbas to avoid being surprised.
You can safely check for N'dubbas by having an ally monster stand on
top of an item and then switching places with the ally monster.

The item table for shops changes from 71F.
Be extremely cautious of if you see an unidentified 400G grass,
as it could be a Disaster Seed which lowers your level back down to 1.
Go ahead and read Restock Scrolls if you're trying to obtain an Upgrade Pot.
Shops can only be found until 90F in this dungeon, so keep that in mind.

86-99F

It's highly recommended to rush stairs in this final stretch,
unless you're aiming for a Golden Interval to collect exclusive items.

Gigahead (84~99F), Typhoon, Megataur, Emperor Tusker, Stun Scorpion (86~99F).

Step in place in the starting room to check for Typhoons before entering hallways.
If you have an Extinction Scroll, prioritize throwing it at a Typhoon, especially
if you have Phantasm Bracelet or the 山 seal to deal with others.
Use Warp Grass or Sanctuary Scroll if you get caught in a hallway.

Megataur has incredible stats, and can take 5~7 hits if you have low strength.
Use Slow, Miss, or Quarter staves to deal with them instead of Unlucky Staff.

Emperor Tusker reduces your HP to 1/4 of its current value from a distance.
Use Seal Staff if you don't have the 山 seal on your shield, and if it drops a
Quarter Staff (10% chance), use it against Megataurs and Stun Scorpions.

Stun Scorpion can paralyze you for 3 turns.
You might lose even 1-on-1 if you're paralyzed, so don't underestimate it.
Enemies have 100% accuracy when they attack Shiren while he's paralyzed,
even when they're under the effect of a Miss Staff.

86-90F

Hyper Gazer and Shihan still appear, so consider waiting until 91F
to throw an Extinction Scroll so that you don't increase their spawn rate.
If you don't have the 山 (Echo Shield) seal, you'll want to be extra careful
around Hyper Gazers.

King Tusker (86~89F) and Monarch Tusker (88~90F) make a brief appearance.
They're weak on their own, but can cause problems if they seal or slow
Shiren near stronger monsters.

Shops no longer appear after 90F.
Keep that in mind if you're aiming for an Upgrade Pot, Disaster Seed,
or an 8-digit score using bags of 1,000,000 Gitan.

90-99F

There's a 30% chance for Golden Stairs to be hidden in a wall between 90~95F,
so read Great Hall Scrolls if you want a Mijinha and Basilisk Shield.
You can transfer your main weapon or shield to either option for fun,
provided you have a Synthesis Pot on hand.

Cave Mamel (90~97F) shouldn't be too threatening since it has low defense
in Shiren 2, unlike some of the other games in the series.

Shihan and Hyper Gazer no longer appear from 91F, so throw an Extinction Scroll.
The monster you choose should be based on your shield's strength and seals.

As you progress deeper into this floor range, monsters like Lashagga,
Boulder Beast, Orcaon, and Gottsuan exit the monster table, effectively raising
the spawn rate of stronger end game monsters like Megataur, Gigahead,
Stun Scorpion, Typhoon, and Emperor Tusker.

Even regular Monster Houses can be terrifying at this point,
so find ways around them if possible.

The End

Once you descend the stairs on 99F, you'll arrive at a strange new location.
A written description of the area wouldn't be able to fully capture the sight,
so it's best to experience it yourself.

You'll obtain a clear icon for your save file, a special reward,
and NPCs inside Mumyu will have new dialogue.

Golden Interval

Notes that apply to all 3 Golden Intervals:

  • The item table is small, so powerful items can be found.
    • Dragon Killer and Dragon Shield can only be found here.
  • Heaven and Earth scrolls are extremely common.
  • Storage Pots are also common.
    • Insert Gitan and use it as a projectile against tough monsters.
  • Sell equipment found in Golden Intervals to become rich.
    • Kabura's Blade and Happy Shield are worth a lot in particular.
  • Food and Grass can't be found on the ground, so be careful of hunger.
    • Defeat monsters using a weapon with the 飯 seal to obtain Onigiri.
    • Keep a shield with the 皮 seal equipped to slow fullness depletion.
  • Monsters are stronger than regular floors.
    • Lashagga in the 2nd Golden Interval is particularly scary.
  • Water Pots can't be refilled.
    • Think carefully before splashing water on Blank Scrolls or monsters.
  • Field of view isn't limited, so Scout Bracelet isn't needed.
    • Despite this, don't dash in hallways.
  • Phantasm Bracelet doesn't provide much of an advantage.
    • That said, you can step onto an air tile and unequip it to warp.
  • Arrow Traps can be found, so you can replenish arrows.
    • Be careful of remaining fullness if you collect arrows.
  • Pitfalls and Flood Traps don't get generated.

First (6-10F)

Strategy

There's a 25% chance for Golden Stairs to be hidden in a wall tile between 6~10F.
You'll return to 11F after exiting from the Golden Interval area.

It's rare to find Great Hall Scrolls this early, so you're unlikely to visit this one.
However, if you do get lucky, be sure to explore the entire map on each floor.

The monster table changes from 3F to include enemies with ranged attacks.
Snacky also appears, often resulting in a Horse Samurai or Cranky Tank.
Insert Gitan in Storage Pots, and throw the Gitan to one-shot leveled up monsters.

Dragon Killer and Dragon Shield can only be found in Golden Intervals.
Dragon Killer surpasses Dotanuki with 15 base attack and 7 slots.
Ryujin Sword can be synthesized if you manage to obtain 4 Dragon Killers.
If you have a Possession Staff, create an Iai on 3~4F to collect Dragon Killers.

You'll skip key floors if you enter this Golden Interval too early:

  • 7~9F - Hunt Mr. Drone for Strength Grass.
  • 9~10F - Synthesize items using Mixers. (However, Mixers appear until 15F)
  • 9~10F - Have Nigiri Morph make Large Onigiri for you.

So the downsides of entering this Golden Interval early can't be ignored.
There's a high chance you'll starve if you enter it before Nigiri Morphs on 9F.
No matter what floor you entered it on, you'll return to 11F when you exit,
so it's best to enter it on 9F or 10F to limit the downsides.

Second (24-29F)

Strategy

There's a 30% chance for Golden Stairs to be hidden in a wall tile between 24~29F.
You'll return to 30F after exiting from the Golden Interval area.

This Golden Interval has a drastic effect on how your run progresses.
It's the last chance to obtain equipment effective against Dragon types.
Archdragon will likely give you trouble if you don't obtain a Dragon Shield
and don't have an Extinction Scroll.

Dragon, Sky Dragon, Skull Dragon (1~2F), and Lashagga (3~4F) appear.
Lashagga normally appears on 70F+ in this dungeon, and is extremely powerful.
Keep multiple bags of 1000+ Gitan inside a Storage Pot to use as a projectile,
or use an item like Miss Staff before fighting it with direct attacks.

You might stand a chance without items if you have a Dragon Killer,
along with a shield with the 見 and 眠 seals.
It's best to hurry through 3~4F to limit the number of encounters.

The item table is the same as the first Golden Interval,
and Surprise Pots can contain items from multiple categories.
Lashagga doesn't spawn on 1~2F, so you can linger for exp and item drops.
Ally Armordillo Pop or Iai can be used to gather Dragon Killers for a Ryujin Sword.
Dragon and Sky Dragon have high item drop rates in particular.

Monster Traps can be used to spawn more monsters, and a Sanctuary Scroll
can be placed on the ground between 3~4F to safely hunt monsters.
Arrow traps can be found, so it's a good idea to collect arrows

Third (90-95F)

Strategy

There's a 30% chance for Golden Stairs to be hidden in a wall tile between 90~95F.
You'll return to 95F after exiting from the Golden Interval area.

You're nearly guaranteed to enter this one if you have 6 Great Hall Scrolls.
If you're lucky, you can find another Golden Stairs on 95F after exiting.

Basilisk Shield can be found, and the treasure chest always contains a Mijinha.
Both of these are exclusive to this 3rd Golden Interval of Road to the End.

Mixergon no longer appears at this point, so you'll need a Synthesis Pot
if you want to transfer your main equipment to these items.

Megataur, Gigahead, and Emperor Tusker are the only monsters here.
These three have fixed item drops, so the only way to obtain additional
Basilisk Shields would be to bring an ally Armordillo or Kengo monster inside.
