Mystery Dungeon where the player must battle and win against 4 bosses in a row on the last 4 floors.
The first 20 floors serve as preparation, complete with Travel Companions, Roamers, and Mixers appearing.
Items are unidentified except for incenses - It's common to not find a second copy of any given item.
Overall, it's not too hard if you secure Travel Companions and spend time farming items and synthesizing,
but you'll want to have a good understanding of each boss's characteristics to stand the best chance.
Strategy
General Advice
Preparation (1-20F)
Travel Companions and Roamers appear, so explore most floors, including making Behemoth Gates vanish.
Generally speaking, 1-13F is the time to collect items and synthesis ingredients, then 14-20F is for synthesis,
but Mixer is on the rare side despite spawning on 14-20F, so keep your synthesis expectations in check.
Be sure to collect arrows between 8-10F in case you find the extremely powerful Rapid-fire Bracelet.
Have Travel Companions hunt Thiefwalrus monsters for guaranteed item drops between 8-13F.
Lastly, 15-20F have dark hallways, so some players like to hurry past these floors.
Boss Rush (21-24F)
The order of bosses is Jakaku → Madara → Embodiment of Batsu → Embodiment of Suiryu.
Keep in mind that all non-boss monsters vanish from the current floor when a boss is defeated.
Traps can still be generated on these floors, so it's best to avoid walking around too much.
Expulsion Scroll can be used to wipe out all non-boss monsters, but it's ineffective against bosses.
Likewise, Eradication Scroll doesn't make a boss vanish, and Sanctuary Scroll is nullified.
Important Items
The value of items differs a bit from other dungeons thanks to the boss fights at the end.
Main Weapon
Prioritize a higher base value instead of an innate ability when it comes to choosing a main weapon.
Weapon Runes
Madara is a Normal type, and none of the bosses share weaknesses, so type-effective runes are a low priority.
When it comes to synthesis, focus on effects that apply to a wide variety of foes instead of a single family,
including Critical, Voracious Hit, Costly Hit, Hunger Power, and status inflicting runes.
Main Shield
Prioritize a higher base value instead of an innate ability when it comes to choosing a main shield.
Costly Block and Voracious Block can be a liability if your Fullness or Gitan is low.
Shield Runes
There's generally less need to synthesize a bunch of runes into a shield compared to a weapon.
Bracelets
There aren't many bracelets that help with combat in this dungeon, so bracelets aren't a big focus.
Monster-find Bracelet and Item-find Bracelet can be found, but think of those as just a bonus.
Rapid-fire Bracelet
Increases projectile accuracy (84% → 91%) and lets you shoot 2 projectiles during the same turn.
Arrows can be found on the ground, or collected from Bowboy family monsters and traps.
Monstercall Bracelet
Doubles the speed at which monsters naturally spawn while equipped (ex: 30 turns → 15 turns).
Can be utilized to encounter more Thiefwalruses (8-13F) and Mixers (14-20F).
Affixing Bracelet
Keeps your equipment safe from Swordsman (18-20F)'s special attack.
Travel Companions following behind you always dodge parried equipment, so it's not essential.
Projectiles
Iron Arrow
Can be shot at Madara to change the active incense effect to Evasive Incense.
If you also have Poison Arrows, it's fine to use up Iron Arrows during the Jakaku boss fight.
Poison Arrow
Shoot these at Nigiri Morph if you want to perform Nigiri Morph Factory and activate Sumo status.
Otherwise, Jakaku gains attack power and Batsu is immune, so use them against other enemies.
Grass / Food
Avoid eating unidentified grasses unless you find 2 copies to prevent wasted uses.
Power-up Grass, Swift Grass, Invincible Grass
Either eat these yourself or throw them at Travel Companions during a boss fight.
Bellyexpand Seed
Throw it at a Mixer to increase the number of items the Mixer can swallow and synthesize by 1.
Antidote Grass
Eat it after fighting Jakaku to restore lost strength, but unnecessary if you have a Rejuvenation Pot.
Can also be thrown at Jakaku or other Draining type monsters to deal 50 damage.
Sweet Potato
The effect is pointless during a boss fight, so use it during the dungeon portion.
However, keep in mind that Travel Companions will also warp to a different room.
Scrolls
Similar to grasses, avoid reading unidentified scrolls unless you find 2 copies to prevent wasted uses.
Scrolls can get wet during the Embodiment of Suiryu boss fight on 24F, unless you have a Spearscale Shield.
Confusion Scroll, Fixer Scroll, Slumber Scroll, Jitters Scroll
Helpful against regular monsters during boss fights, but Slumber Scroll has a drawback.
All 4 of these scrolls have a buying price of 300 Gitan, and a selling price of 120 Gitan.
Sanctuary Scroll
Placing this scroll on the ground does nothing during a boss fight.
Use it during the dungeon portion - Don't try to save it for any of the boss floors.
Blank Scroll
Bosses are immune to both thrown Eradication Scroll and Expulsion Scroll, so it's not an insta-win option.
However, Expulsion Scroll is effective against regular monsters even on boss floors.
Staves
Disguising Staff and Sealing Staff are the 2 most important staves for boss fights.
Madara and Batsu both have trickier specials, so Sealing Staff should be saved for those 2 in particular.
Other staves can be useful against bosses, but single-target effects might be too slow to out-pace added foes.
Disguising Staff
Each use basically ensures 8 turns of safety for you and your Travel Companions.
If you identify it, do everything you can to save it for boss floors instead of using it earlier.
Sealing Staff
Swing it at a boss at the start of a fight to shut down special attacks and monster summons.
If you only have 2 uses left, save it for Madara and Batsu (Batsu is immune to thrown staves).
Empathetic Staff
If you're planning on trading hits with a boss, swing this beforehand to deal some extra damage.
Incenses
Heat-ban Incense
Light this during the Embodiment of Batsu fight to receive 0 damage from the boss's attacks.
Blurry Incense
Light this and shoot arrows at the boss while it mostly helplessly roams around the room.
However, it can make it tricky to work with Travel Companions or track creatures in general.
Aggressive Incense
Useful if you want to try and rush down the boss with Travel Companions or such.
You'll want to use an item like Disguising Staff or Confusion Scroll beforehand.
Cautious Incense
Keeps your items safe against Thiefwalrus and Swordsman special attacks.
Pots
Preservation Pot
Lets you carry more items for boss floors, synthesis ingredients, etc.
Insert important scrolls into Preservation Pots before the Embodiment of Suiryu fight to keep them dry.
Hilarious Pot
Effectively shuts down enemies for a while on a boss floor.
Water Gun Pot
Use it against Embodiment of Batsu (or Megataur) to cripple its attack power.
Identifier Pot
Insert grasses or scrolls instead of bracelets - And ideally after narrowing down options by price.
Grasses to aim for - 70/25 (Swift, Power-up, status inflicting) and 400/160 (Revival, Invincible).
Scrolls to aim for - 300/120 (Confusion, Jitters, Slumber, Fixer).
Synthesis Pot
Mixer is quite rare in this dungeon, so this pot can still be helpful.
Farming Techniques
Collecting Arrows (8-10F)
Bowboy (8-10F) provides Wooden Arrows, and Crossbowboy (9-10F) provides Iron Arrows.
The dungeon portion can be tough, so it doesn't hurt to collect 99 arrows even if you lack a Rapid-fire Bracelet.
Options include Earthmound Staff, Evasive Incense, Earth Ninja D (8F), Bored Kappa (9-10F), and rocks + traps.
Thiefwalrus Hunting (8-13F)
Thiefwalrus appears beween 8-13F, so just linger and have Travel Companions defeat them risk-free.
Porky the Pirate can throw rocks at the Thiefwalrus and make it warp if the rock misses, so he's not reliable.
Nigiri Morph Factory (13-15F)
The Lv2 Nigiri Morph appears between 13-15F, so it's technically possible to have it create Large Onigiri.
Unlucky Staff hasn't been sighted, so use Poison Arrows or Poison Grass to lower Nigiri Morph's attack power.
Travel Companions and Skull Mage (13-14F) complicate things, and you only have a max of 1200 turns on a floor,
so it's quite debatable if it's even worth the trouble in this dungeon.
Floor Guide
General Outline
Explore for items, Travel Companions, Roamers, and shops, and make Behemoth Gates vanish for extra items.
1-13F is the floor range where you're searching for synthesis ingredients and useful items for boss fights,
14-20F is the floor range where you synthesize and finalize your item selection, and 21-24F is the boss rush.
1-3F
Notable: Pit Mamel (1-2F), Spearfish (1-3F), Pullfrog (1-3F), Death Reaper (2-3F), Firepuff (2-4F)
Nothing should be much of a threat on these floors unless you immediately get surrounded.
Spearfish might drop a Spearscale Shield if you're lucky, but don't get too fixated on trying for one.
Monster Stats (1-3F)
Floor | Monster | HP | Atk | Def |
---|---|---|---|---|
1-2 | Pit Mamel | 11 | 5 | 8 |
1-3 | Pullfrog | 15 | 5 | 4 |
1-3 | Spearfish | 16 | 6 | 2 |
2-3 | Death Reaper | 22 | 6 | 5 |
2-4 | Firepuff | 20 | 7 | 7 |
4-7F
Notable: Water Ninja D (4-6F), Metal Ninja D (4-8F), Fire Ninja D (5-8F), Hoppin' Hitter (5-8F), Behemoth (6-9F)
Ninja family monsters have a higher item drop rate, so make it a point to hunt them.
Fire Ninja D destroys grasses, scrolls, and staves that are on the ground, so explore quickly between 5-8F.
Water Ninja D's special attack can lower your gear's upgrade value, rot onigiri, and make scrolls get wet,
but it never uses its special attack when it's adjacent to the player and can use a normal attack.
Behemoth Gates have a chance to spawn between 6-9F, so aim to make it vanish for an extra item drop.
However, keep in mind that Fire Ninja D might destroy the reward, so be selective where you make it vanish.
Monster Stats (4-7F)
Floor | Monster | HP | Atk | Def |
---|---|---|---|---|
4-6 | Water Ninja D | 24 | 15 | 9 |
4-6 | Tree Ninja D | 25 | 14 | 10 |
4-8 | Metal Ninja D | 27 | 13 | 11 |
5-8 | Fire Ninja D | 28 | 18 | 5 |
5-8 | Earth Ninja D | 38 | 11 | 20 |
5-8 | Hoppin' Hitter | 32 | 22 | 15 |
7-8 | Mid Chintala | 45 | 23 | 10 |
8-13F
Notable: Earth Ninja D (5-8F), Bowboy (8-10F), Thiefwalrus (8-13F), Crossbowboy (9-10F), Bored Kappa (9-11F),
Mudkin (9-11F), Masked Samurai (10-12F), Curse Girl (11-12F), Minotaur (11-12F), Nigiri Morph (13-15F)
Thiefwalrus can be hunted for guaranteed item drops if you have a Travel Companion other than Porky the Pirate.
Minotaur also has a chance to drop an Axe of the Minotaur when slain, so linger and farm items.
Bowboy family monsters and Earth Ninja D or Bored Kappa can be utilized to collect arrows.
It's best to let Travel Companions fight Mudkins to avoid losing weapon or shield upgrade value.
Curse Girl can curse your equipped shield, making it difficult to synthesize your shield on upcoming Mixer floors.
Nigiri Morph appears from 13F, and its special attack never fails to transform an item into Large Onigiri.
It also has pretty high attack power, so don't hesitate to use arrows and staves.
Monster Stats (8-13F)
Floor | Monster | HP | Atk | Def |
---|---|---|---|---|
8-10 | Bowboy | 45 | 17 | 18 |
8-13 | Thiefwalrus | 65 | 25 | 23 |
9-10 | Crossbowboy | 55 | 20 | 20 |
9-11 | Bored Kappa | 50 | 18 | 11 |
9-11 | Mudkin | 70 | 5 | 9 |
9-12 | Fierous | 60 | 25 | 22 |
10 | Pop Tank | 90 | 20 | 24 |
10-12 | Masked Samurai | 47 | 18 | 18 |
10-12 | Ghost Samurai | 4 | 13 | 15 |
11-12 | Curse Girl | 65 | 28 | 28 |
11-12 | Minotaur | 70 | 31 | 20 |
13-14 | Ghost Radish | 40 | 18 | 15 |
13-14 | Skull Mage | 77 | 31 | 21 |
13-15 | Lt. Spearfish | 60 | 24 | 17 |
13-15 | Nigiri Morph | 88 | 35 | 30 |
14-20F
Notable: Nigiri Morph (13-15F), Brodillo (14-16F), Mixer (14-20F), Behemoth (15-17F), Pumpanshee (15-19F),
Hoppin' Slugger (17-20F), Daze Radish (18-20F), Swordsman (18-20F), Floppy Hani (19-21F), Dragon (20-21F)
Synthesis Zone - Mixers have a low spawn rate so you'll want to linger, but other monsters threaten items.
Nigiri Morph (13-15F) transforms items into Large Onigiri, Brodillo (14-16F) breaks pots and incenses,
and Swordsman (18-20F) knocks away your equipped shield, sending it 10 tiles behind you.
That said, Travel Companions always dodge disarmed equipment in this game, so it's not too risky.
Pumpanshee (15-19F) can be a menace towards Travel Companions other than Porky the Pirate,
so consider stepping in place in the starting room to lure them closer before entering a hallway.
Collect a Confusion Grass from Daze Radish (18-20F) if you didn't find other synthesis ingredients,
since even a single Confusing rune can be helpful against a boss if it activates and inflicts a status.
It's ideal to have 3 Travel Companions for 21-24F, but the boss rush can also be cleared solo.
Monster Stats (14-20F)
Floor | Monster | HP | Atk | Def |
---|---|---|---|---|
13-14 | Ghost Radish | 40 | 18 | 15 |
13-14 | Skull Mage | 77 | 31 | 21 |
13-15 | Lt. Spearfish | 60 | 24 | 17 |
13-15 | Nigiri Morph | 88 | 35 | 30 |
14-16 | Brodillo | 70 | 36 | 38 |
14-20 | Mixer | 78 | 39 | 29 |
15-18 | Nashagga | 70 | 21 | 20 |
15-19 | Pumpanshee | 60 | 35 | 22 |
17-20 | Hoppin' Slugger | 72 | 39 | 31 |
18-20 | Daze Radish | 80 | 37 | 27 |
18-20 | Swordsman | 77 | 30 | 25 |
19-21 | Floppy Hani | 85 | 39 | 39 |
20-21 | Dragon | 120 | 45 | 40 |
21F - Jakaku (777 HP)
Notable: Jakaku, Soul Reaper, Dragon, Vile Scorpion, Super Gazer, Polygon Shaka, Floppy Hani, Muddy
Jakaku Battle - The boss's stats are the same as the story battle, but the monster table differs.
Hidden traps can be generated on the ground on boss floors, so avoid walking around if possible.
Jakaku gains attack power when hit by Poison Arrows or Poison Grass, so never use those against it.
Disguising Staff isn't effective if Floppy Hani is present, since a decoy leveling down undoes the disguise.
Jakaku is arguably the hardest boss fight, provided you prepared counters for Madara and Batsu,
so go ahead and use some items that you don't plan on using for Madara and Embodiment of Batsu.
Don't be afraid of losing a Travel Companion or two to power through this boss fight if needed, too.
Polygon Shakas often warp in front of you and block your line of sight to Jakaku at the start.
1 new monster is naturally generated every 15 turns on 21F while the boss is present on the floor.
All regular monsters vanish from the current floor when a boss is defeated, and the stairs becomes usable.
A number of items are also generated on the ground, so pick them up before advancing floors.
Jakaku's Special Attacks
- Spit Poison (adjacent)
- Lowers Shiren's strength by 1 and inflicts Slow status.
- Shove (adjacent)
- Pushes Shiren back 1 tile, and makes him drop some items.
- Eat Monster (adjacent)
- Jakaku eats an adjacent monster, restoring 30 HP and curing bad status conditions.
Monster Stats (21F)
Floor | Monster | HP | Atk | Def |
---|---|---|---|---|
21 | Jakaku | 777 | 50 | 20 |
19-21 | Floppy Hani | 85 | 39 | 39 |
20-21 | Dragon | 120 | 45 | 40 |
21 | Soul Reaper | 75 | 40 | 40 |
21 | Vile Scorpion | 108 | 45 | 33 |
21 | Polygon Shaka | 70 | 34 | 33 |
21 | Super Gazer | 66 | 30 | 26 |
21 | Muddy | 75 | 25 | 33 |
22F - Madara (666 HP)
Notable: Madara, Lv2 Ninjas (Rank C), Lv3 Ninjas (Rank B)
Madara Battle - The fight starts with the player surrounded, so use a crowd-control item like Disguising Staff.
Sealing Staff prevents Madara from using special attacks, including summoning additional monsters.
Another option is to throw an item like Sedating Grass to temporarily prevent Madara from acting.
Madara's Breathe Smoke special attack activates a floor-wide incense effect based on player actions.
The effect can be overwritten by lighting your own incense, or by shooting an arrow or swinging a staff at Madara.
Keep in mind that Madara has other specials like Jump and Smoke Bomb that let him warp to a different spot,
so you might not always have a clear line of sight to Madara for arrows and staves as the fight progresses.
If you run out of crowd-control items, expect to quickly burn through other items or lose Travel Companions.
Also, Madara doesn't seem to react to Travel Companion attacks by using Breathe Smoke very much.
Regular monsters never naturally generate here, even while the boss is present on the floor.
A number of items are also generated on the ground like before, but Fire Ninjas often destroy them.
After slaying Madara, prepare an item that can be burned to light Heat-ban Incense before advancing floors,
but Embodiment of Batsu can still be cleared without a Heat-ban Incense, so don't worry if you don't have one.
Madara's Special Attacks
- Breathe Smoke - Activates an incense effect based on the player's actions.
- Evasive - Player deals damage to Madara with an arrow.
- Defensive - Player uses an Aggressive Incense.
- Reflective - Player uses a staff or scroll against Madara.
- Jump - Madara leaps away from the player.
- He seems to use this special more often when his HP gets low.
- Smoke Bomb - Madara creates a clone (Roughly 60 HP?).
- He seems to use this special more often when his HP gets low.
- 2~3 arrows should be enough to defeat the clone.
- Howl - Summons 3 ninjas from the floor's monster table.
Monster Stats (22F)
Floor | Monster | HP | Atk | Def |
---|---|---|---|---|
22 | Madara | 666 | 37 | 34 |
22 | Fire Ninja C | 75 | 45 | 21 |
22 | Fire Ninja B | 105 | 56 | 39 |
22 | Water Ninja C | 80 | 37 | 26 |
22 | Water Ninja B | 120 | 45 | 39 |
22 | Tree Ninja C | 70 | 37 | 24 |
22 | Tree Ninja B | 145 | 47 | 43 |
22 | Metal Ninja C | 85 | 42 | 29 |
22 | Metal Ninja B | 125 | 50 | 40 |
22 | Earth Ninja C | 85 | 21 | 28 |
22 | Earth Ninja B | 155 | 52 | 38 |
23F - Embodiment of Batsu (888 HP)
Notable: Batsu, Tiger Hurler, Blazeous, Concusschin, Porkon, Megataur, Fluffy Bunny
Batsu Battle - Embodiment of Batsu burns projectiles aimed at him unless they have piercing properties.
The boss can use Howl right at the start, so use a Sealing Staff or Confusion Scroll immediately.
Fluffy Bunny can be problematic if summoned by Howl - Its special heals a different enemy's HP by 50.
Batsu is likely the toughest boss, but Heat-ban Incense or Water Gun Pot instantly cripples its damage output.
While there are ways to make this boss fight trivial, expect a tough fight if you lack those options.
The monster table includes many strong foes, and Batsu himself has high attack power and a wider range.
Embodiment of Batsu's charge-up attack can be interrupted by inflicting Paralyzed status.
If you're out of useful items, you might actually be out of luck at this point.
Embodiment of Batsu's Special Attacks
- Flame Attack (2 tiles ahead)
- Deals 20~30 damage when you have a shield with 30 defense.
- Charge Attack (3 tile radius)
- Cures bad status conditions including Weakened status, then deals 80~100 damage.
- This attack counts as explosion damage, so Blast Shield halves damage received.
- Sandstorm (anywhere)
- Creates sand pillars on the field.
- The boss can walk through these pillars while destroying them.
- Creates sand pillars on the field.
- Howl (anywhere)
- Summons 3 monsters from the floor's monster table.
Monster Stats (23F)
Floor | Monster | HP | Atk | Def |
---|---|---|---|---|
23 | Batsu | 888 | 52 | 30 |
23 | Tiger Hurler | 135 | 50 | 45 |
23 | Blazeous | 92 | 36 | 24 |
23 | Concusschin | 160 | 35 | 27 |
23 | Porkon | 150 | 75 | 50 |
23 | Megataur | 170 | 55 | 42 |
23 | Fluffy Bunny | 10 | 10 | 50 |
24F - Embodiment of Suiryu (555 HP)
Notable: Suiryu, Famed Octopling, Capt. Spearfish, Dartingfrog, Sky Dragon, Dragon Pit, Lashagga
Suiryu Battle - Embodiment of Suiryu has low HP, but can be a bit tricky to actually hit.
Embodiment of Suiryu makes it rain after she receives ~166 damage, then repeats the rain every 25 turns.
The rain transforms scrolls that aren't in pots into Wet Scrolls, so it's best to read scrolls sooner than later.
Embodiment of Suiryu's normal attacks only hit about as hard as Madara, so trading hits shouldn't be bad.
The monster table isn't as harsh as the previous floor, but beware of Aquatic monsters on water tiles.
Like usual, status conditions are effective at temporarily shutting down the boss.
