Details
How Staves Work
- Swing a staff to shoot a magic bullet that deals an effect if it hits a target.
- Throw a staff to deal a similar effect as that staff's magic bullet.
- Nothing happens if you swing a staff with 0 remaining uses.
- The number of uses are random when a staff is generated.

Swap Staff
Switch positions with the target hit by the magic bullet.
Great for run-away play, and often used after Transient Staff to hurry to the next floor.
Throw it with Cannon Arm status to switch positions from behind walls, etc.

Useful for making enemies warp by having them land on a water or air tile,
repositioning enemies before using Swap Staff, defeating Cave Mamels, etc.

Pinning Staff
Shiren leaps forward to the wall or creature the magic bullet hit.
Great for run-away play, stealing, and taking shortcuts in general.
When leaping to walls, you can throw an item first to check for traps on the destination tile.
Gyazas convert magic bullets to 2 damage, so they can't be used as a destination target.
Statue Cave will introduce you to some of this staff's common use cases.

Slow Staff
Decreases the target's action speed by 1 stage. (See Slow status)
The effect lasts for the duration of the current floor when swung at an enemy.
Loop attack → step away → attack to defeat enemies without taking damage,
provided they only have attacks that hit adjacently or in a straight line.
Also useful for Mixer synthesis.
Action speed stages (enemy):
Swift (2 attacks) → Swift (1 attack) → Normal → Slow
※ Yellow auras increase action speed by 2 stages.

Swift Staff
Increases the target's action speed by 1 stage. (See Swift status)
Generally a negative item, but can be used with a Reflection Pot to hasten yourself.
Other uses include hastening allies or friendly monsters.

Used to defeat enemies (Slow / Asleep), or to run away (Confused / Warp)
Keep in mind, monsters like Archdragon will be a bigger problem if they warp.

Transient Staff
Inflicts Paralyzed status, and then warps the target to the exit or stairs.
Can be used with a Monster Detector to quickly locate the stairs.
Can also be used with a Reflection Pot to warp yourself to the stairs,
but you'll be paralyzed unless you have the Chakra Cleanse ability at night.

Paralysis Staff
Inflicts Paralyzed status, shutting down most monsters in a single turn.
Paralysis lasts for the duration of the current floor unless attacked or hit by an effect.
Useful for blocking room entrances or hallways when cycling day and night,
or to position Swap Staff targets when stealing, etc.
Synthesize with a weapon to create the Paralyzing rune.

Empathy Staff
Inflicts Empathetic status, dealing damage equal to damage you receive.
Effective against night monsters, but it's not recommended to get hit by them.
Empathetic status only works on the last target to be afflicted by it,
so you can't deal damage to multiple enemies at the same time.
Use with a Juicy Peach and blessed Gitan to deal 999 damage to the final boss.

It works on Stairs? Trap, so it's more valuable near the end of a dungeon.

Pots have a high chance of shattering when you trip, so it's good to carry this.
Unlike Shiren 2, you can't make enemies trip by swinging this staff.

Useful for smaller Monster Houses, and for softening groups of Floaty monsters.
The electric damage can also hit Pumphantasm monsters inside walls.
Typically not an item you keep on hand very long unless it's blessed (50 damage),
or unless you're near floor ranges with Cave Mamel / Gitan Mamel.

Seal Staff
Inflicts Sealed status, stopping creatures from using special attacks or abilities.
Nice option when you're adjacent to dangerous monsters like Mudder or Sensei,
or when you want to prevent long-range enemies from using special attacks
as you approach them inside rooms.
Synthesize with a weapon to create the Sealing rune.

Clone Staff
Inflicts Cloned status, making enemies attack the target instead of Shiren or allies.
Similar to Shiren 4, enemies will only go after Fake Shiren if they're within view.
Only 1 Fake Shiren can be present at a time, and the previous character
will be left Confused if a new Fake Shiren is created.
Monsters that defeat Fake Shiren will level up.
If both Chow and Fake Shiren are present in a room, enemies will prioritze Chow.
Unlike Sealed status, monster special abilities can't be shut down by Cloned status.
(example: Mixers will still swallow items while Cloned)

Staff of Sacrifice
Causes a log to fly at Shiren from the left of the direction he's facing.
Any character hit by the log will receive 5 damage and 10 tiles of knockback.
Often used to warp by positioning yourself so that you land on a water or air tile.
Useful for stealing like Pinning Staff, and you can stop in the middle of a room.
No effect if Shiren is inside a wall, and it can cause you to lose Super status.

Glorious Staff
Increases the target's level by 1. (Grants 500 exp if target is Shiren or an ally)
Create a Gitan Mamel for experience points, Nigiri Morph for Large Onigiri,
Grass Guy to raise your stats, Strong Cart to collect Knockback Arrows, etc.

Leveling down will remove status conditions from monsters, but auras will remain.
Among the best items to counter powered up Absorbiphant family monsters.
Level down a Pop Tank into a Strong Cart to collect Knockback Arrows, etc.

Boring Staff
Creates a tunnel 10 tiles deep if the magic bullet hits a destructible wall.
Tunnels can't be created diagonally, and it'll be 20 tiles deep if blessed.
Especially useful when used with Monster Detector and Item Detector.
Deals 10 damage if the magic bullet hits a creature, or if the staff is thrown.
If a Pumphantasm is in the path of the tunnel, the tunnel will stop in front of it.

Creates a wall 1 tile ahead, or deals 2 damage if thrown or an enemy is in front of you.
Perform a direct attack to destroy the wall and change it to a ground tile.
(example: create a wall on a water tile near an item island, destroy the wall, cross over)
Also useful for creating safe spaces when cycling day and night, stealing, etc.
If you enter a created wall using a Wall Clip Bracelet, the wall will collapse.
Synthesize this + Immunity Scroll + Explosion Bracelet with a shield for the Anti-Blast+ rune.

However, you won't receive damage if the target is defeated in a single hit.
Since it's an ailment, Super status can wear off when it's used.
It's a negative item, but worth keeping for its powerful rune.
Synthesize with a weapon to create the Dispersing rune.
